    LOL @ amulford, that's funny.

but, my 1984 Mazda RX-7 had a 1.3L engine.. 5 speed. that f*cker was fast. very nimble on it's feet. to bad i rolled it one night, it's toast now. but damn that small rotary engine was powerful. ;)

yeah the old rx-7s could get up to 350hp with the twin turbo version and a bit of help. fkkn crazy ****.

The new ones only like 220 or something ATM, but word in mazda is that they have TONNES of room for easy improvement. Itll go up in years to come, when interest wanes.

Man, I used to work for the company that stored, accesorized, and shipped all the Mazdas coming out from the plant and coming in to this area from Japan. The RX-7s were nice when you could get them started. The Miatas were fun, especially in the snow, but were a pain to get in and out of. When I left there I was loading them onto and off-loading them from the railcars. That was a cool job even though the work sucked and it seemed like it was either VERY hot or very cold.

Anyone have any history with the Supra. Not to take ANYTHING away from the RX7, but man, thats the car that gets my juices going. I'm thinking the 95/97 model. Yummy.

the Supra was a nice suped up version of the very popular Celica. i never owned a Supra.. but i did like the looks of em.

i was more into the 2 seater roadsters myself.

Now back to our regular programming. The RX-7 stood for a few years alone as the only true affordable Japanese sports car. Mazda even once said it was THE sports car that everyone could afford. It's to bad they (RX-7's) aren't available in the US anymore. I truely fell in love with the RX-7. having owned several of them over the years.

Toyota then came out with it's version of a sports car.. that being the MR2.. blech! Then Pontiac came out with their Fiero? WTF was that? underpowered, overheated, and the side panels were made of who knows what material. if you don't know.. they side panels were "dent free". meaning you could not dent it.. it would bounce back. blech again!

actuley the rx 7 was very expencive when it came out and the rx8 is at a not bad price starts at around 24 and fully loaded at 30
also the standard tranny is more expencive than the auto and also has 30 more horse power also the rx7 with nitro was a 10 seccond car

my goal is to be driveing one by the fall or wait till the spring to get 1 and i will eather go black with black or yellow with black and yellow highlights. the madza/ford blue is ugly and that is not y i would get a blue one.

Apex seal, all I gotta say.

And the new RX8 dyno's at like a measly 160hp to the wheels. It's real expensive to get more power out of them, sure you can do intake and exhaust, but anything else is gonna be $$$.

RX7 with nitro in the 10s? Not unless you've got a super built engine, or a super built twin turbo one.

I had the RX-7. New in 1984, the se model with the larger engine. It was a sweetheart until it was stolen from my apartment complex in New Orleans in 1989. Found it stripped to the shell in the projects. Remember paying $14K for it with the base, smaller engine models going for about $9K. Looked at the Z28 new at the time for about $12K but after driving the RX-7 SE, I was sold.

Nice car, hopefully it won't continue the famous overheating and seal problems of it's older brothers. The last edition RX-7, 6th Gen?, was the cream of the crop, the RX-8 won't achieve that kind of heritage or performance any time soon. Peter Farrell is a local tuner in Virginia, and does some great work on RX-7's. A friend at work owns one tuned and modified, but he rarely gets to drive it.....wanna guess why :)

    It's a "attractive" car, but I wouldn't buy one personally....no Mazda's for me.

I never had any problems with the RX-7 for the five years I had it. That rotary engine started every time and just purred everytime I pet the pedal. That engine was always good for 200k miles. I must of been lucky or it was the larger, heavy duty engine with a heavy duty clutch.

I wouldn't buy the RX-8 though. I would consider the new generation Corvette. Miss my 1997 Corvette that had trouble at a bend and met the ditch.

lol, Let's see, would you believe there was gravel on the road. That's it! Gravel on the bend. Darn pebbles made my vette slide into a 360 degree spin and into the ditch. Nothing to do with the car, me, or speed.

Gravel happens... My daughter's now ex-boyfriend put a rented Acura NSX over the seawall in Newport Beach, RI. Was only doing about 35 at the time.

Luckily he got the insurance. :D
