HI I have a question that I know every one is sick of. I have the rm 6700 but here is the difference. My reciever lets me customize the x over to my speakers. I can pick 100hz, 120, or 200hz, my question is if i pick 200hz to the front my polk internal x over is 150hz will this take care of the gap every one is talking about between the fronts and the sub. I want to use the sub cable to run the sub polk 404. What should I set the sub cross over at. I think this might be the best of both worlds. Just need a little advice before I hook up my reciever it still in the box HKavr 430
THANKS for any advice...... do I set the fronts to large or small and x over in the reciver to the sub to 200hz.
Thanks

You can't do it the way you want to.

Your satelites roll off at the bottom at 130 Hz and your sub rolls off at the top at 160 Hz. So any of your AVR's settings (100, 120 or 200) are going to leave a void in the combined frequency range.

Best bet is to wire the "Polk" way routing the satellites' through the sub. Sub x-over setting around 145 should be good to go...

Your AVR should allow you to set speakers to "Large" and sub to "No".

Thanks for the reply. I gave in to the polk way. After reading all the posts in the forum I think the only way to hook up the LFE way is if your avr has a X-over that can be set to 150hz. Any other way you are going to have a gap in hz from the sub to your sats. I ran out of speaker wire since the polk's way you need to run a lot more wire from avr to sub back to fronts. I did notice a slight hum from my psw404 sub when I pluged in tried a few outlets all with the same hum. I think I might take it back after reading the forums. Also a note my psw404 does not have the 80hz-full range switch that is between the speaker connections on the sub. Did they change this? does every ones shippng sub box say made in china.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

Damn... you read ALL the posts??? :D

Give Ken in Customer Service a call about the hum and the switch... very helpful guy.

As for the Made in China, Polk recently relocated their assmebly operations from Mexico to China, so everyones box will say what yours does from now on. I know that Stu Lumsden, Polk VP of Engineering, is delighted with the increased capabilities of the new facility. So I would not be concerned on that point.

Just a quick update, ran the set up the polk way sounded ok. But then after looking at my on screen set up I found 150hz as a crossover, that option was not noted in the book. The book gave me an option of 120 and below and 200hz nothing in between. So then I hooked it up with the LFE way with a catch. My avr430 hk gives you a few options and this one I think was perfect. Set all speakers to small except the fronts set them to large. set the sub to this choice "sub L/R + LFE" this option sends a full range to the fronts and sends the signal to the sub at the crossover setting of the mains so that is 150hz. I think this covers every thing. I felt the diffrince right away more bass and very clean sounding. One question Ken told me to set the crossover for my surrounds to 80hz should they also be 150hz I think I confused him with all my questions, also the center that should be set at 150hz right ?? let me know any feed back. Thanks. rm6700 speakers .

Glad you are now enjoying your rig.

I'd suggest trying the surrounds/ center settings both ways and see what you enjoy. Also try the 120 setting (which might end up best).

Reason you may want to leave some bass in the center/ surrounds rather than set all to 150, is that 150 is well into the range where sound is easily located. Assigning all the bass duties to the sub, may call undue attention to its localtion. Leaving some upper bass in the center/ surrounds may offset this somewhat.
