Not sure how many people on this site are as into the LOTR as I am, but I'll add my two cents to any thread about these films. As a fan of the books, I have to say I've always enjoyed the extended editions better, and I'm sure ROTK will not be any different. I think some of the scenes added to Two Towers were not really in service of the story, just extra helpings for fans of the book, and that may be the case with ROTK extended cut as well. However, the film trilogy was not complete for me with the omission of the confrontation with Saruman at Orthanc tower, so that will be a welcome addition. Also, the fight between the Witch King and Gandalf on the Minas Tirith parapets has a lot of potential. I'll probably rent the theatrical cut to watch the extras and get my fix until November when the real version of the film hits stores.Current System:

Loved the books and really dig the movies. I have to get all of the EE versions. Tried to hold out for a box set, but might not see one...

As far as boxed sets go, I've seen an announcement that all three extended editions will be available in a boxed set which will also include an extra disc with deleted scenes that didn't make the cut of even the extended editions. The only thing I'm not sure about is if this boxed set will include the extra materials currently coupled with the extended editions (behind the scenes, commentaries, etc.). If the boxed set doesn't provide those as well, I would recommend getting the extendeds separately because that stuff is really interesting. The boxed set also won't be out until next year.Current System:

I'll end up getting both. I'll get the theaterical version so I can see the movie for the first time, I know. Then once the EE is avaliable, I'll purchase that one also.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!
