I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but i heard about it today on the radio
they said that blue lasers can read more details than the standard red lasers
thus you will have more detailed sound and picture
it also said they will be able to store up to 50MB on a single cd
anyone heard about this?

HD-DVD format has been passed and Blue-Ray is failed. Soon in a year or 2 new HD-DVD players will make there way in the market with ofcourse DVI output. The HD-DVD disc will handle upto 30GB of capacity which means highest quality video and sound no doubt. I'm waiting to get one of these for sure.

Yes, Blu Ray. I have been reading about it for a couple of years, and it is now a reality. It will definately shake up the home entertainment industry.Rocky Bennett

I don't know WTF I am talking about, but, better decoding technology is going to need to come along to get more detailed sound and images. My understanding of bluray is that it can read smaller pits on the disc surface, only meaning more data can fit on the same size disc. Still gonna need more technology than just that for more detail in other areas. Promising nonetheless.

They've been talking about blue lasers for about as long as there have been CD's read by red lasers. I wouldn't hold your breath.

I've been waiting for the blue laser stuff for a while. It's been in existance for years, but never release (or standarized). Hopefully pretty soon we will have 1080 DVDs. But not until the movie companies can decide what is the safest way (and more pain in the **** for the user) to send stuff to the TV without it being recorded. Because once HD DVDs can be recorded, they are afraid they will loose all movie goers. So they will spend 5 years developing some encryption method and transport method to prevent coping. (Then in 3 months after they go public, your average hacker will break the code and put it on the internet).
(and the reason they hold more is because a blue light wave is much shorter than a red one).Denon AVR-3803
