Vampires

One of my co-workers ( a vampire) sent me an e-mail today. It was video AND audio of a Chechan rebel at the hands of some Russian captors (or so I was led to believe). I did not watch or listen to the contents due to all the warnings involved prior to opening the attachment. I have a vivid imagination, and no need to expand my knowledge of mans capability to be inhumane towards his fellow man.

Little later in the day I got a visit from a vampire. He asked me what I thought of the attachment. Before I could formulate a proper response (no wooden stake at my desk), he proceeded to describe how the captors sliced the prisoners throat before they cut off his head, and you could hear the guy "gurgling" on the audio. At that point, if my chair was made of wood instead of resins and naugas, I would have plunged it into his heart. I made it clear to him that I thought he was the undead, and didn't want him hanging around.

If I appear to like you, please don't ever send me anything like that, or let me find out that watching and listening is your bag.

Sorry George but that kinda is my bag.

Running on a volunteer ambulance squad, those are the kind of people you get to meet face to face. The gurgling guy, not the other dudes. Nobody ever said you had to like seeing it though. You just gotta learn to work past it and give them the help that you are there to give.

Not to say that we drive into combat zones and such but when you gotta sweep up a crotch-rocket rider off of teh pavement or un-impale a driver from his steering wheel after getting hit head on by a drunk driver, it can be pretty gruesome. But honestly, it's not so much the injuries but rather seeing the person in pain or fear that gets to you.

    OK, enough about that.

Working as an EMT and being exposed to it is one thing, but passing around links to sites that serve no purpose other than to cater to mindless scum that think watching a man be tortured and killed is something completely different.

    Jstas,
You are exposed to quite a few visual scenes that most people cannot even comprehend, that's your job. I think I gotta go with GG on this one, there are some things that I have no desire to see. There is no practical benifit to watching someone be brutalized and murdered......it's sick.

    You got it Frank.

I get all kinds. Thankfully, some are labeled .... Motorcycle Accident, you know **** like that. Still makes me wonder just what type impression you leave on people, that they would forward this stuff to you because they think you would actually want to see it.

I agree! A few guys in the office found a clip of our soldiers in action(they were on the killing side) and I could not watch it. From the little that I saw remains a huanting image. I just can't take stuff like that. If that means I'm a whimp then so be it.

I apologize friz and it won't happen again.

I can't stand that junk either. Its rather disturbing. If that makes me a wussy, or whatever, then fine. What really bothers me even more is what makes people get off/get a kick out of that stuff. What is so amusing about seeing evidence of human suffering in the most explicit form. Its just perverted and disgusting. I tend to get angry really quickly when someone pulls that junk out and I end up yelling their asses off. I hate it.

...and yet all these videos you guys speak of can be seen everyday in Hollywood movies.

I have never seen actual real-life footage of these types of videos and I never want to.

Uhmm Gentlemen, can we drop the *ussy references. Not liking and not getting into that kind of disgusting garbarge does not make you weak, insecure, less of a man, or a *ussy! It just means that you are kind, considerate, compassionate, human beings who don't like to see other human beings suffering.

Descibing it the way you have been is degrading not only to yourselves, but also to women.

I hate even reading about stuff like this going around. Gives me the willies.

I don't like to watch that kind of thing. It does show you about how little is thought of life in some places, and how dangerous the world actually is.

It is really sad to hear about those types of acts, but if I find the need to protect my own, those involved will wish they were there instead. Sometimes the only way to beat the animal is to become the dominant predator.

Guys, how about cutting the lady some slack, after all, she did ask nicely. Cathy hasn't complained about the stuff around here before and to her credit, unlike most of the other women that have joined, she has stuck around.

I agree with George on what he has said. Seeing torture and stuff like that is way over the top and something I don't want to see. It's evil and I know that evil exists....thus I don't need the reality to know the reality exists.

Sadly, I think some people needed to see some tapes of people like Saddam doing that to people. Some people need to be brought back to reality and to know that crap like that happened to people, but you're right...most of us don't need it.

On the other hand....I've driven by a number of car accidents and rubber necked before. Anyone who says they haven't, I think, is full of crap. Stuff like that is fascinating because it isn't the norm for most of us. We don't look at it because we think it's awesome or cool, but because it's different and presents something out of the ordinary for most of us. That's why MOST cops, EMTs, ect eventually come to accept it as part of the job and it doesn't affect them like it would you or I, most likely. Everyone handles it differently, but I feel anyone who says they haven't ever been intrigued by such things is full of it.

Going out of your way to look at crap on the net and forward emails is a bit riduculous....Especially when you're talking about people being murdered, raped, or tortured....that's just vile stuff nobody needs to see unless they need a dose of reality to help wake their **** up.

This kind of stuff is seriously disturbing; I've seen it first hand (desert storm) and have seen (unknowingly) some pretty gruesome video's (Daniel Pearls' come to mind). Hollywood doesn't even come close, believe me. It's kinda like seeing a funeral in a movie, and going to a funeral. When you are collecting the personal belongings of a fallen comrad on the battlefield, and you see pictures of his wife, kid, dog, etc...you wonder how the smiles in the photos will quickly fade to sorrow upon the news...

Cathy I feal responsible for this oversight and really did not see it coming. When I said "whimpy puss" I ment it in the light of "sour puss" so please except my apology for any perceived negativity.

I'm SURE the rest of the forum will agree and if not in time they WILL also see the light.

I find some of the stuff interesting. I remember my friends and I renting Faces of Death when I was a freshman in high school. Would I want to watch a video of someone being tortured, NO.
