I don't play loud (anymore) I was just wondering if putting gear through its paces at higher volume helps bust em in.

Be more specific, what type of "gear" are you referring to exactly?

@Clipdat all of my kit cept the Hello Kitty boom box, that's just for lookin at. All the stuff in my sig basically.

So every electronic component, speaker, and cable that you own isn't broken in?afterburnt wrote: »@Clipdat all of my kit cept the Hello Kitty boom box, that's just for lookin at.

That's what I am asking "does it make a difference if you play hard". Heck I have heard some stuff needs 500 hours. Probably have that on a lot of my gear but not all. In between the nonsense that I post, I have some serious questions. -
I was just trying to narrow down what exactly it is that you were wanting to break in, because different types of gear have different requirements as far as volume/current/voltage/etc.

I have virtually no social skills as I mostly just listen from the bed or lazy boy with my theraputic helmet and five point restraints, avoiding all human contact, they are vectors ya know.

Vectors for what?afterburnt wrote: »I have virtually no social skills as I mostly just listen from the bed or lazy boy with my theraputic helmet and five point restraints, avoiding all human contact, they are vectors ya know.

This is a good thing, I consumed some Romain and I have been quite gassy for a few days now.

Bruce stop taking the "blue" pill...... Switch to the "Red" pill....

I didn't have the "little purple pill" so I am faking it on a red pill and a blue pill. Is it not working?
-
Just keep it cranked up to 11 all day when you are at work then every night when you are not home.
Your neighbors wont mind...........Do you live in an apartment? -

Funny you should say that. I have no neighbors so to speak and I have no power bill here, so I can crank it all day and all night. Oh yeah my amps go to 12 BTW!

I personally was told to burn in Crossover's with new caps to give them as many hours of play (even if it is at low volume as not to bother others) will help them burn in
so i would give some burn-in time of up to the crossover Dave @westmassguy built for me at 70 hours a week till I could listen to them on the weekends.
I found i love to to hear the difference in the mids to upper/highs range as each week they seem to grow and get better then worse the better until they really started to shine!
it would truly evolve each week
but for new Speakers i was told by Lewis of Omega Speakers to break in my new speakers by using music with a lot of bass to stretch out those drivers! give them a good work out for 100+ hours to give them a good burn-in!2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

@voltz check out "Command and Conquer" for a bass work out. It's actually fun Techno sort of stuff.

Got a link to it?afterburnt wrote: »@voltz check out "Command and Conquer" for a bass work out. It's actually fun Techno sort of stuff.

If you want an obnoxious, weird, but bass heavy song, look at “The One With My Friends” by Marty. That gave my Velodyne a workout... when my parents were not home, of course.

FWIW, I (still)_ like Jennifer Warnes' Way Down Deep. It's one of my go-to tracks to use to test for loose fasteners on loudspeakers (seriously!).

(but, of course, I am an old guy -- sort of the Jennifer Warnes target demographic )
The Blue Man Group album is good, too, as regards shakedown testing.

(obviously, seek out full-res versions for best results )
I used both as cannon fodder when I first started foolin' around with that new-to-me dual 15" subwoofer prototype last year.

Didn't Jennifer Warnes have a hit back in the late 70s? That name sounds familiar.

I got some tracks that would make that sub beg for mercy.

So -- yes, she did. Couple, in fact.
This would be the one remembered by most of us hormonal teenagers

She has an interesting backstory. She was, in one of the casts of the musical Hair, and was subsequently featured more or less occasionally on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in the late '60s as "Jennifer":

Interestingly, that clip appears to be from the period of the Musicians' Union Strike, when the aforementioned SBCH was taped sans -- well -- musicians. Instrumentalists, that is.
I remember that show (there may have been a couple?) rather vividly, actually -- after all of these years.
Musta been the drugs
Memorably she and Joe Cocker (of all people!) had a hit song from the soundtrack of the movie Top Gun:

Oh, yeah, right: An Officer and a Gentleman. I always get those two movies mixed up. Now I remember, I liked An Officer and a Gentleman.
Later on, she became an audiophile darling, mostly (I think) on the strength of her album Famous Blue Raincoat. She, like several female singers/songwriters in those days, had a Leonard Cohen thing goin' on (in more ways than one).

(Oh, BTW -- the Eighties called. They want their synth programs back.) -
