They sometimes use tubes known to be problematic? -
The Chinese made tubes (at least the generic ones) tend to be less than terrific, but that falls under "complete cr@p parts" methinks.
If this is a reference to the 3S4 discussion elsewhere -- that tube, and the preamp design employing them, is as 'murrican as chop suey (i.e., very 'murrican).
