Initial impressions after trying these two pies…
First of all, it’s always a regional thing, but Chicago is only a stones throw away from Detroit…

The spinach pie was the first one I cooked up the deep fryer ... JK!
The pie was OK except for 2 things
#1 I’m a huge spinach fan and there wasn’t much of it
#2 the crust was funky/Dry (but was buttery) and that’s my fault, reheating instructions called for the tin to be lightly lubed with oil, and I had None

Tonight was the veggie pizza and there was a decent amount of mushroom, onion and green pepper along with MORE sauce and cheese ... Probably 15% more sauce and cheese
Reheating the pies properly is key, once you get a feel for how the pies are constructed

Hands-down the best frozen pie I have had. Although for the price they charge, I was expecting something more like this…

NOT gonna happen! Lou’s pie is about 1/2 that thick, but tasty. Plus, with that little bit of extra sauce (I mean GRAVY, Tony) and cheese (...I kid, I kid ...) Very good

    My first taste of real Chicago deep dish pizza was at Lou Malnati's. An hour just to get seated, but so worth it! On my return to Chicago two years later, we had Pequod's, which was also excellent. I think I'd choose one of those for a last meal. Oh, why not... both! :)

    Oh yeah, I love NY pizza too.

    stuffed pizza generally has much deeper topping density than any other type of pizza. As with deep-dish pizza, a deep layer of dough forms a bowl in a high-sided pan and the toppings and cheese are added. Then, an additional layer of dough goes on top and is pressed to the sides of the crust.

    Found that on the web. Better way to describe it.

    Frozen pies are never going to taste like the fresh ones, might as well accept that fact. I think Skip is now on their Christmas card list. I think he may even have used his empty pizza boxes to bring back some media in.

    Best deep dish I have had comes from Mad Anthony’s Brewhouse in Auburn, Indiana. It was THE place to stop when I would go to the Duesenberg museum.

    I miss Indiana sometimes...

    This isn’t, technically, a Chicago “style” of pizza but it is unique to Chicago nonetheless.

    They have frozen half pounders and 1lb pizzas available. I’m not sure if they ship them but you can pick them up at the restaurant. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. This changed my perspective on pizza. It is ridiculously good and very different from anything else out there. If you live in Chicago, you have no excuse not to try this place. If you’re going to visit, put it on your list of places you need to be. I find that a Hacker Pschorr Heffe Weiss pairs very nicely with a half pounder (meat sauce, mushrooms, with white bread crust).

    The deep dish seafood pie is something special. I met my now wife at Wayne State Univ. in the Fall of '92. One of our first big dress up dates was a Pat Metheny concert at the Fox, then we ate a seafood pie at Pizza Papalis afterwards. The rest is history, LOL!

    I still love Nikki's and Buddy's pizza as well.

    We love it. We're on a small/medium size private lake. I grew up by 11 and hoover. Tringali's bread and cannoli's are awesome.

    Just got back from a visit to our son in Evanston, Illinois. He's attending Northwestern University Kellog school of business. Friday night we had the pleasure of eating dinner at a Lou Malnati's! Had the Malnati Chicago Classic. Delicious!
