Why are so many things packaged in next to impossible to open materials?

Is the chainsaw lobby that strong? Even cardboard/bubble packs need the "jaws of life" to open, let alone the pure bubble packed stuff. Hell you can loose a limb if you are ot careful opening those! While I am at it, I hate "jewel" cd cases. "jewel"? how bout "junk dirt ball garbage" cases that always bust? Some "jewel". Don't get me started on those infernal stickers! It's a conspiracy I tell ya, just wait you will see. They will package all food like this just to kill off the weak and arthritic.

I am convinced that companies package this way so that it is next to impossible to be able to return things. The plastic packages that are heat sealed on the edges are like razor blades when it tears!!!

Troubles opening up the new Porcupine Tree CD Bruce? Anyways here is my combatant when it comes to getting to business and playing tunes once you get that brand spanking new CD

    1. Smith & Wesson the sight adjustment gently slide in and put the small adjustment in the top corner part of the shrink wrap pull up and your in business remove that wrap.

    2. Grow one of your fingernails out like a 70s disco king that had a reason for one long fingernail and start working on the frigging tape or whatever it is to prevent you from getting to the tunes. If your not into one long fingernail, use the Smith & Wesson sight adjustment.

    3. A bottle of Goo Gone or Power Plus industrial strength or similar product, I use these and a cotton ball, saturated in the stuff to remove that %!****% residue.

    4. Have a couple of spare Jewel Cases around because it's guaranteed if Amazon or Best Buy shipped it the ^^%%^#@mn jewel case will be cracked.

I hope this helps you for further on down the road on your new music (CD) purchases, remember Smith and Wesson is your friend, I have used that tool to open more ^@!>_/$%÷mn Jewel Cases than I have adjusting sights on my guns.

They created the packaging to specifically upset you.

Countless dollars were spent researching you are in particular, and it was determined after 5 years of research, conferences, and psychological profiles that you wouldn't consider investing in a box cutter or utility knife to open the packaging material.

They have already recouped their investment dollars by investing in band aids.

Btw box cutters go through that killer plastic like hot knives through bricks.

I bet they just throw returns away because it's cheaper than repackaging it.

Take a drill, Phillips head bit, spin it at full speed into the plastic until you go through then pull the drill through the plastic, cuts like butter :)

There used to be this company in New Zealand (or maybe Australia -- never can keep those two straight) called Tullen that made these little snipper/shear things.
They were for general purpose/kitchen use and are perfect for things like "clamshell" packaging.

The company went out of business (maybe family owned) -- and (rumour has it) someone bought the "technology" and shelved it. Sort of like GM and the 100 mpg carburetor, don't you know? ;)

So, if you ever find a pair of Tullen snips at a yard sale or something -- buy 'em.

The packaging y'all are disparaging -- I think -- has a very simple explanation.
If one opens it, it is pretty darned obvious that it's been opened :|
I believe this is to minimize the chance that a consumer could buy something, open it, use it, and then return it to a store as new, unused, unopened, NIB etc.

    That's my belief.

Tape an M80 to it...or drag it behind the car until the wrapper wears off.

My preferred method of choice is to give it to the grandkids to open. It seems they have a knack for such things.
