Polk speaker question
I just upgraded my Sony front towers and Cerwin Vega center with a new set of Polk speakers. (RTi4's-front, Ci3-center) The sound on these are incredible and now I have the upgrade bug again. I currently have a set of Sony bookshelf speakers (rears) and a Sony WM500 sub as part of my system. I going to keep the sub, but now I am thinking of changing out the rears or moving the Rti4's and getting a new set of fronts. My funds are limited. I mainly watch movies, but I do listen to music on occasion. I prefer to have to be bookshelf speakers. Would the R20's be suitible for the rears or should I look in to getting the RTi6 or Rti38's for the fronts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Bill, welcome to the forum and congrats on the upgrade, but it seems you've caught a nasty little bug!;)
Get the 6's and move the 4's to the rear/sides. The 6's are timbre matched to your center channel (and to the 4's) and will provide a near seamless sound stage. -
agreed....or better yet get rti8's and move the 4's to rear

This is some good advice Bill.

Hi Bill,
What receiver, source, etc are you using? Upgrading one of those components may be better than getting new rears first.

I am running the speakers on a Sony STR-DE985 receiver. Not a hight end unit, but it seems to get the job done.

I'm going with Frank on this, grab some RTi6s for the front and move the 4s to the rears...

Whatever you do, let us know what you do and what you think!

Will do! Thanks again for all your help!

Bill,
I'm using RTi6s for my fronts and couldn't be happier. This would be a good upgrade.Proud SOPA Member since 2005! -
The advise you have been given is correct. I just want to add that if you plan on updating your reciever with in the year, you make consider the 8's. They just seem to give you a fuller sound. However, if you have a small room, the 6's will be suitable. My room is 23x17 so I could not go with the 6's because it did not fill the room. My pocket book wanted the 6's but the ears needed the 8's :-)

I really don't think the 4's sound bad matched up the the CSi3 center. I would love to get the 8's for the front but the way my entertainment center is set up, the tower speakers will not work as they would have to be set up three feet up from my basement floor. (which is why I wanted the bookshelf speakers) It looks like I will try sniffing around for some deals on the RTi6 speakers for my fronts. And to think, just about two weeks ago, I was satisfied with just my Sony speakers! This hobby is killing me!

You guys are KILLING me! I just orderd the Rti6's.
-
and to keep up with the 6's, you should also consider upgrading the center to the csi5! And of course, I'm interested in your csi3.

I think I am done with upgrades for a while guys.
Any idea on some good mounting brackets for the Rti4's? Or would it just be better to mount them on my wall behind me with the included screws?
Bill -
Just nail/screw into a stud and hang via the keyhole in the back.

I received the Rti6's last Saturday and had a chance to test them out with the CSi3 center and the Rti4's in the back. Let me just say that that I am VERY IMPRESSED. Between these speakers and my old Sony towers (which I thought were good) there is simply no comparison. Thanks again for everyone's help.
