RTA 12s?

I recently acquired my dads old polk RTA 12s which he bought in 1997, from an audio shop in Atlanta Georgia. The sales man in the shop calmed that they where a custom ordered from polk by someone who never came to pick them up. I have looked around and I think that they are just plain old RTA 12s, but I was wondering if any of you had ever heard of custom orders like this, or if they could have been made from left over parts. model numbers are 12-01445 and 12-01455

P.S. normally i would say the salesman was lying but my dad says they where new in box which is odd due to the fact it would be over ten years since the where discontinued, if my information is correct

all it means is that the store never carried them and ordered them "special order" for someone. Nothing special about them look like first gen RTA12
