My 25 yr old Porter Cable cordless drill just gave out, Any Recommendations?

The service center says the transmission part(s) are not available. I'm ok with that. This drill owes me nothing. Although I'm a little bummed out, in that I just rebuilt the power/battery pack.

The Dewalt service center, who seems to be 95% Dewalt, 1% PC, 1% B&D, 1% Milwaukee and somebody else, has a used trade-in program ....

Long, short. I'm eye-balling the DCD791D2 for $150
This is for light use. They have another model w/ Hammer drill option for $25 extra. I've got a hammer drill already

https://www.dewalt.com/products/power-tools/drills/drills-and-hammer-drills/20v-max-xr-liion-brushless-compact-drill--driver-kit/dcd791d2

Seems this is on the trade-in program until the end of the yr. BC it's being discontinued for a model that has BLUETOOTH?? What the SHIZZLE?

Your thoughts are appreciated ....

Had a Milwaukee m-18 for 15 years. Had to replace brushes on it once. Used it daily, and was pretty rough with it. Would still be using it, but batteries are no longer available.

The newer m-18 is lighter and has more torque. Love that thing.

So much for a Milwaukee fan boy's opinion.

Dewalt is nice stuff - but I have to put in a plug for my 18v Milwaukee.

I got this really nice set from Milwaukee that I've been very happy with. Charges very fast, charges last a lonnng time, and the hammer drill is the cats meow as far as I'm concerned. (though I see you already have one).

How often are you using your tools?
What do you do with your tools?

I've had the same dewalt impact driver for 12 years now. I've dropped it off a 3rd story roof, while installing PVC facia, onto a concrete sidewalk. That was last year...she won't quit.

That kit is compatible with the relatively new flexvolt battery system which are incredible. This is a plus.

We use the flexvolt at work from the chop saws, to skill saws, to sawzalls, to hammer drills. With 150 - 200 tradesmen on my site, 80-85% use dewalt.

Everyone will have differing opinions on tools. YMMV

@MrB ... I'll look into the flexvolt, but sounds more $$ that I want to spend

I ask bc I've always been a Millwaukee/Porter Cable/Bosch guy. Never owned Dewalt

Honestly, I'm slow'n down a little and the model # I mentioned is prolly what I'll go with, unless I get some negative comments.

fyi, the local service center has a "new" quarterly sales promo . . . picked up a couple of really nice pocket knives for $6 each, and I'm NOT a pocket knife kinda guy!

I have PC air guns (7) and compressor.
I have a Bosch bulldog and lasers.
I have a Milwaukee Hackzall and Impact.

All are great tools. I just prefer Dewalt as my daily drivers.

Go to the service center, or Home Depot for that matter, and get them in your hand. The right drill will speak to you ;). It may not even be one of the mentioned brands. Rigid and Mikita also make good tools with Mikita being my choice of the two. Don't buy Ryobi.....please....just don't.....

Dewalt cordless are what they supply us with here at work, and, I'm not impressed. I love my 20 year old Dewalt compound mitre saw, but, the cordless stuff is just ok.

If I got 25 years out of a PC, I'd probably get another PC.

If you choose Dewalt like I did. I use the drill and flashlight kit at work and liked it so much. Bought the kit for home use. 20 volt models. Dewalt has a reconditioned eBay site. Looked new unused condition and saved a hundred off three piece kit. All brands mentioned above are good choices. Stay away from Craftsman ,Riobi,Worx. . Peace. D

I have a craftsman drill, and I hate it. The batteries work, but they won’t drill for more than about 20 minutes total. And I can’t let them sit for more then a day, or else they will be fully discharged. I don’t use it enough to replace it though so I am gonna continue to use it for now.

When my long time Porter Cable drill failed after 20 years, I went M18 Milwaukee. The good stuff made by the "original" Porter Cable went away through company buyouts.

    My friend swears by Hilti.

Dewalt and Milwaukee are both very good. I have all Dewalt. Had them for a number of years and they are great. If I ever have to upgrade or acquire a different tool it will most likely be Dewalt.
