This pre-packaged smoked salmon rocks ...

Not much salmon fishing going on here in the Midwest. So smoking my own is out of the question. But I recently got turned on to this product.

The smoke is a bit strong, so a little goes a long way . . .
Honestly, I’ve been eating a lot of herring and sardines lately. During one sitting I’ll do a little herring in dill sauce, then smoked salmon and then back to the sardines. Then do it all over again, mixed with crackers and cheese

fwiw, when the shtf the sardines are tasty and keep at room temperature for years

That looks good, I love smoked salmon. Thanks for the heads up.

I am of Swedish heritage, we love fish. Smoked, pickled are the favorites.

    Sure is!
Again, the smoke might be strong for some, so you may have to cut/dilute it a little bit

    Looks good!

I love smoked salmon and, also, sardines.

I haven't tried this brand of smoked salmon.

My wife an I love the wild caught, cold-smoked Alaskan sockeye salmon from Whole Foods.

The "wild-caught" is important because "farm-raised" salmon has a pretty bad rap these days. I don't know whether it is well deserved.

In any case, salmon and sardines are true superfoods.

    .

Are we talking "wild-caught" as in the fish....or the person catching the fish. Needs to be a distinction made me thinks. :)

Moose they are raised in what can be described as a sewage basin and feed dog food. Note the package will say "color added" because their natural diet makes their flesh pink. Farmed salmon is like eating your dog just not as healthy. I will take my chances with the mercury laden wild stuff, what do I have to lose I am already mad as a hatter? :#
  • Same thing happens with farm-raised rainbow trout: no color with a cardboard taste.

Waaaay back in the day, our family went on vacation to Minnesota to .. Leech Lake (?).
Caught a lot of muskie that the owner smoked on his place.
On the way back home, the phrase , "Hey, reach back there (station wagon) and get just one more package of the smoked muskie" was heard quite often.

I still remember that taste..... mmmmmmmmmmmm.

I've seen that salmon at Costco. I might try some. Funny, the package says 99% Boneless, do they check each fish? During two week trips to MN we'd catch several Pike and start pickling them right away in a two gallon glass jar in the fridge. In about ten days we'd have super firm, pure white, fishy goodness! Okay come on Brydson, you're offended! :)

One word of advise on this, choose a thicker offering.
Yes, it's more expensive, as it is sold by the lb.
but, the thicker cut is a little less smokey and ^^moist-er-er^^ lol

I still prefer my salmon raw vs cooked, smoked or whatever

Fished Alaskan Salmon a couple times up the rivers. The ones with sea leaches are the best, and freshest. Cut a clump with the pocket knife right out of the water...mmmm...mmmm

A fellow at work brought in a lunch box full of smoked bluefish that he'd caught and smoked at home. That was no doubt some of the best tasting fish I've ever eaten.
