Any standard camera tripod will work fine. I just shove it in the couch cushions and adjust the height to ear level.

    Cool Thanks guys.
I will place an order and get rid of this cardboard setup.
I have also helped a few coworkers with their settings and it is done.
I’m guessing a tripod should be more accurate too.

Take three wooden dowels 4 feet long. Form them like a frame for a teepee and tie them together at the top. Adjust to the proper height then set the mic in the top. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks.

If you're doing this on the seat just cut the dowels shorter.

Yeah, but everybody should have a nice tripod.
    They come in handy.

This has been a public service announcement.

I just put some boxes or stack pillows on the couch to get it to ear level.....costs nothing.

These auto calibration programs are not all that accurate anyway. I usually have to go back in and adjust something that's off kilter anyway. Or...maybe they are and my ears are off kilter, which is probably the case but only one really matters.

With XT32, I run 8 measurements that require a different placement for each measurement for the microphone. Having the boom mic stand makes it very easy to accurately measure the distance from MLP for every position and also maintain the same “ear” height. My MLP and measurement placement are always the same. And the results are really pretty consistent and accurate everytime….”The Right tool for the Job”.

I also have another boom mic stand set-up for my calibrated mic when I run REW. This way I can make any adjustment and immediately analysis the end result booth physically (ears) and instrumentally (REW). It just makes everything easier.

We spend so much time setting up our speaker placement, MLP placement, room treatment placement. Why would you not do the same for room correction? Unless that’s not important to you.

I also bought the $20 Audyssey app for the iPad. It has a little more control and info over the on screen setup from the 7704.
I like that I can save multiple setups of room correction and load them to the receiver at any time.
Works great when trying different settings or room layouts. Find the one you like without rerunning the setup all the time.
I know once I find the sweet spot it will not change but it will be nice to fix it if someone messes with your settings. Just reload it.

When I got a Marantz receiver a few months ago my first reaction to the cardboard tripod was it's a nice touch. Then I tried to use it. Would have been ok if the setup program just relied on a single location, but Audyssey demands several at different heights. I just used a camera tripod I already had and tossed the pieces of cardboard away.

The boom mic stand recommendation above is even better for this scenario.
