if it is just a matter of replacing the driver, you can get the driver from Polk and swap it out yourself. As long as you can operate a screwdriver without injuring yourself, VERY easy.

Yes an easy repair to do yourself....don't let any 'locals' get ahold of 'em!!! Do it yourself!
Hey TroyD, ,you seem pretty knowledable....a speaker is a speaker so to speak...eh? I was thinking of replacinging the 10" driver in my 350 with on of the new Polk GNX "car" woofers. Will this work? The gnx has an incredibly low range. Could I feed that woofer more power and get a clean response? I can't get it half-way up now before i start to get some break-up in the cone and have to back off the power. Thats with only LFE's going to the woofer and the signal output of the amp at -2. Any ideas?

The breakup and distortion you're experiencing is more likely due to the amp than the driver. I don't think replacing the driver would make all that much difference.

...actually I am not. I'm just a wiseass with a lot of time on my hands. I'm not much of a techie to be honest. I agree with Aaron on this....I have never really given much thought to doing something like that though.

Aaron is right, the amp could be clipping, causing distortion.

As far as dropping in a Polk auto sub, contact Polk to see if it would be a good match. There are many parameters to deal with here, a speaker is not a speaker. Biggest issue being impedance, enclosure size/design, and tuning.

    Cheers,

Since the power for the sub comes from its own source, I assume we're talking about the Polk amp...? Am I expecting too much...? I am in kind-of a large room.....any one have any expierence with 'stereo' subs?......I have also considered getting a PSW-250 for the (rear) surrounds....Could this be too much? ....Is there ever enough?

Ya know if I was a real bass freak I'd come up with some plan to use the line-outs(+2-sub outs) of my amp to feed the line level in-puts of seven subs......theres an idea.

How would I hook up two subs to my receiver? Right now I have one subwoofer plugged into the LFE output on the receiver running to a PSW350

i have main outs that i y'd off for one sub and the other thru the lfe.
before this i had them both y'd out of the lfe worked good. a whole lot of bass as they were both crossed over at 80hz (lfe filter) too much for music and some movies.. reading the bass management article in the speaker specialist issue #2 prompted me to try the different wireing and it made a huge difference fuller sound.
    lfe sub x-over 70-75hz
    main sub x-over 125hz
