Parasound faceplate replacement

Has anyone replaced a faceplate replacement on a Parasound HCA 2200ii, or on any of their HCA amps? Faceplate got wadded up during shipping. Parasound has a replacement faceplate for sale, but unsure about the LED lights and power switch. Is it a basic plug in/out, or a pain in the ****?

The seller was kind of an idiot by not double boxing it and placing it a box 3 times too big and only using air bubbles, pillows...

What else will go wrong because of the harsh treatment and bad packing down the line?

Thanks for the smart **** reply F1, I appreciate it.

If you haven’t realized I haven’t been around all this equipment and how the intricacies of wiring within amps.

Maybe that’s why some audiophiles get that SNOB label.

It may seem like a harsh reply but if you have to ask, you really shouldn't be messing around inside of electronics with capacitors that store enough energy to ring your bell and then some.

pitdogg2 also raises a very valid point with what other damage the amp suffered that you can't see. And without proper testing equipment, you won't know until you plug it in and potentially ruin a set of speakers if there is a non-visible short somewhere.

It isn't a snob thing. It is a don't let your pride override safety and good judgement thing.

If it arrived damaged because of the seller's negligence, then you shouldn't have to take matters into your own hands and spend more money to fix problems. File a claim, chargeback, eBay case, etc. Send it back.
  • Isn’t this site set up for how to, reviews, and other questions? I was simply asking a question, but with every typical Internet forum there always seems to be that easy way out of replying.
Instead of saying well this is how you replace it, or saying that it may be a dangerous and risky job.

How would anyone else’s take that response. If you feel like you’re going to be a smug about it then don’t reply. That’s not helpful.

On another another post I felt really encouraged for about 5 minutes when another member said keep it up, ask more questions. Then quick reply from F1 again trying to make himself feel better by saying NO you’re not getting it. I’m not a electrical engineer for F sake. To possibly learn things about voltage and and wiring through texts in 1 post is nearly impossible...

I’m sure most on this site, this has been their hobby for many yrs. it’s only been 7-8 months for me.

    Thanks!
  • Hello,
Usually face plates are not very difficult to exchange, most of the time once the top has been removed you can see how the off/on switch is attached to the front. There might be a mounting clip for the LED that easily releases the assembly. It could be a small amount of hot melt glue holds it in place. Both the on/off switch and the LED could unplug from the circuit, making that part easier.
Parasound might be able to give you an idea how hard it might be. The DIY site has a few photos of the inside, but not enough detail to know about the front panel.
  • Thank you very much!
  • Have you had a chance to test out the amp in order to determine if it's functioning correctly prior to fixing the aestethics?

Jesse can be abrasive, but he is a wealth of knowledge and information, which you can actually extract out of him if you approach him in a calm and respectful manner.

Instead of name calling and personal attacks.

However, I’ve only ever posted 4 times, and 1/2 of those were responded with the same quick dismissive attitude from the same member. Just because he’s been on the site since 2002, doesn’t give him permission to portray that cocky know-it-all attitude. It’s just better when someone like that says nothing at all.

Go to your safe space, you'll feel better. Maybe then you'll realize the advice I gave you is spot on.

I feel ya @SUbears ! I've been on this forum for a couple a months and yes you must have a thicker skin at the beginning. Hang in there! There is a wealth of knowledge here. Keep it fact based, decipher the "remarks", and you'll be able to glean what you need. And before long, you'll be sharing as well. And you'll be giving it back "remarks" before long!

Most folks on this site have a great sense of humor and the bantering is fun! Heck I even made @F1nut laugh a few times!

I find that searching within CP helps alot. Most of my questions/issues have already been visited many times here. It shows that you're willing to study a bit and research things, the folks here at CP truly appreciate.

I'll be curious as to how yout faceplate replacement goes. The affects on the internals mentioned above is a very good point, you should check those as well.

    Keep us posted!

Send the amp back, get your money back and buy a different one. Damaged gear isn't worth messing with.

This is the best advise. Damaging a faceplate takes some blunt force, no telling what other issues lurk within. Send it back and get a different amp.
