Hi & Lo Freq Amps to RT800i

I have RT800i and CS400 speakers and was reading a short paragraph on the user guide that you Connect add separate hi and low amps to your spreakers by running separate wiring and removing the gold clips behind the speakers.

Does anyone have more details on this and the value or improvement? I'm new to this and I've just been using the normal outputs from my Onkyo 787 receiver.
