Warm up?

I have a PC that essentially has not been turned off for ten years and it is still kicking. Should I leave my audio stuff on all of the time and if not what are the most important components to warm up before playing? Asking for a friend.

I leave my solid state gear in all the time. I turn on my tubes only when I want to listen.

My pc is on all the time, it will put itself into sleep mode after 30 minutes if not in use.

My audio gear goes off when I'm done for the night, most of it goes into standby mode with the exception of my Polk sub which I leave on since the standby mode has always been flaky and won't wake when it should.

I leave my preamp and file player in the stereo on. Nothing in the HT is always on. My home PC gets turned on every few months or so. My work laptop is on while at work or home, but off during travel to and fro. My iPads and phone are always on. And my brain churns 24/7. :)

My power conditioner and PC are on 24/7. Everything else is as needed. If I want to turn my gear on, I just talk dirty to it.

PowerPlant stays on 24/7 as does the Butler amp. Any SS amp stays on at all times. Everything else as needed.

When I was using an outboard DAC I left it on most of the time. It ran a little warm, so, if I knew I wasn't going to be spending much time in front of the system I would shut it off, but, mostly it was on. The Marantz turns itself off or I'd leave it on all the time. There may be a way to bypass that, but, I'm too lazy to look in the manual and see.

My NAD pre and the Keces DAC are always on. When I had the McCormack, that srated on as well. My current Class A space heater prohibits that, so its an hour warm up before serious listening.

Nice idea to keep solid state power amp turned on, but what about turn on/off transients from your tube pre? Pops, noises etc.

Goes against the standard turn on order of source -> pre -> amp. And then off order of amp -> pre -> source.

The only thing I turn off is my tube gear.

I do this as well. Even though Cary recommends leaving its tube preamp on at all times. I turn it on Thursday night so it’s ready for Friday beer time. It gets shut off Sunday or Monday for the work week.

I leave SS amps on all the time and never have pop when turning the Joule pre on or off.

I like the standby mode on the Joule, keeps it from coming up from a cold start. Also like the design of the Butler...even though there are tubes, it can stay on 24/7.

The Butler design is unique in that way, where the tube life is extended beyond what normal tubes would have if left on 24/7. My guess is you have another 10 years before having to have those tubes replaced because I didn't leave it on 24/7. Matter of fact, it only saw a couple hours a week of operation.

It would cost me ~$800 a year if I kept my amp on 24/365, so I don't.
