are 6.1 sound systems worth it? or should i just look at 7.1 receivers?

also, the rear center... is it another satellite speaker or a center channel speaker?

center channel speaker....i think whether u want 6.1 or 7.1 depends on ur room size, if ur room can handle it then go for 7 but if u can't cram 7 speakers in there then 6 will work

I'm perfectly content with my 5.1 wetup...

I put a center surround in temporarily just to test it out and wasn't all that impressed...

I haven't tried 7.1 and can't speak to that, but don't have the room for it...

How many movies are mixed with something above 5.1 anyway...I've not seen many...

doesn't really answer your question...but my thoughts anyway...

I kind of like the 6.1 thing. Most movies don't do much, but the THX & DTS ones seem to sound pretty good. If you reciever can handle it, I would go for it. (even though there really isn't anything out there that is 7.1, I have 2 rear speakers just to be able to crank things out [I like cranking DVD music videos in 7 channel stereo]).

    YES!!!!!!!
6 or 7 channel is a room size budget issue.

PM - classic denial. No really....... Do some research --- DSP's. You get FULL surround with every movie. 6/7 channel is one of the biggest upgrades I have done in the DD/DTS hometheater age. You will wonder how you ever got away with NO sound in the rearstage.

    Young,

6 or 7 channel is great if you have the room for it! That means room behind you for rears and placing the sides to the side of you. If you sit on a back wall, it is hard to get great rear and side seperation.

As to discs that have the ES/EX coding, bookmark this:DD-EX and DTS-ES List

Buying a receiver these days that doesn't support 6/7 channel is harder than buying one that has it.

    Cheers,

    7.1 all day, everyday!!

The rear speakers do a great job creating a seamless surround experience.
