I got my new SVS sub the other day.
Here's a pic of the box after UPS worked their magic.
The sub amazingly is only slightly damaged.

Doc, I sent an email to SVS .
I tried to post this pic at the home theater forum, but couldn't figure out how to do it.

thanks,
-Luc

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Luc, the HTF does not have a server to host a pic for you like Polk offers. You must have your own site or have some host the pic for you then you just link to it.

That is a sad looking box. Sorry to see that. Good luck in getting it fixed, quickly.

I assume that is your thread I was posting to over at HTF?

Wow - majorly serious damage to the box. Good grief. Glad you sent them an email; they will take care of everything.

    Yes Doc, the very same.

Yes the black area is dirt from the sub sliding along laying on it's side. When I went to pick it up it was still on it's side, and I asked the representitive of the brain trust,
"uh can't you guys read? it says this side up".
To which I got the brillant answer,
    "they all say that".
I had to just shake my head and say
"Ya think there's a reason for it?"

****. I work in a governement warehouse, and I ship ALOT, daily. This much I can tell you...I don't use UPS anymore. I use FedEx and DHL. I've watched hundreds of times, the UPS guy slinging boxes across the truck to get at mine, and then making jokes about it. I have refused many shipments from them as well, because of obvious shipping damage. Believe me, it makes a difference when UPS loses out on a 1.6 million dollar contract shipment because you tell your vendor you don't want your contract shipped via UPS...

    ...and that makes me laugh!

I had UPS beat the hell out of a 505 sent to me a couple on months ago. Looked almost as bad as the SVS box, no huge holes, but plenty of water damage. The box was still damp when it was delivered to me, and the grill was smashed, other minor cosmetics, but that is what you pay them for right? Probably won't use them again if I can help it.

They only use BAX for overseas shipments.

I'm glad you posted the picture. I just bought an SVS and my box had two large gashes in it. Consequently, my sub has a small ding in it. Two things --

    1) SVS should double box their subs. As a customer, I'd be willing to pay an extra few bucks for the added cost of doing so.

    2) Be very careful when using UPS (or don't use them at all). UPS has horrible customer service. Last week, they lost a sub that I sold on ebay and shipped through them. I can't get anyone to tell me where it is and the buyer is pissed.

Mine was the PB2+ and Bax did deliver mine. I think it might depend on the model, size and weight etc... I live in Texas, but I think it's more the model than anything

yes, its the weight and size, bax for the ones over 100 lbs im sure.. My pb2-isd came bax, they were great and the box was mint... no problems... UPS has been pretty good as well.. only a have received a few smashes boxes and luckily their were no damage... it doesnt matter, They all at one time smash something, not just UPS... as i was told.. UPS's volume is higher. hence more damage accurs...

UPS can't be any worse than Fed Ex. Let me vent my spleen, please...Fed EX will deliver packages, regardless of whether there is a huge hole is the box and the contents are visibly damaged, it doesn't matter. Small packages are placed on the ground near the garage door. Case in point:

    1. As I come home one day, there is a small Fed EX van pulling out of my driveway. The driver waves with a smile as he drives off.
He leaves a torn box with a damaged subwoofer which could be easily seen through the ripped cardboard. Box marked as FRAGILE.

    2. I order two pairs of surround speakers. One box arrives with a hole the size of my fist and I could reach in and touch the speaker grill through the packing foam. Box marked as FRAGILE.

    3. I order an AVIA Calibration Disc. The shipping box had a hole (gash) that went inside through the AVIA DVD case where there were lose pieces of black plastic ... FRAGILE?

BTW, Fed EX in case your interested, Webster's Dictionary defines
    fragile as:

    Main Entry: frag·ile
    Pronunciation: 'fra-j&l, -"jIl
    Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French, from Latin fragilis -- more at FRAIL
1 a : easily broken or destroyed b : constitutionally delicate : lacking in physical vigor
    2 : TENUOUS, SLIGHT
    - fra·gil·i·ty /fr&-'ji-l&-tE/ noun
synonyms FRAGILE, FRANGIBLE, BRITTLE, CRISP, FRIABLE mean breaking easily. FRAGILE implies extreme delicacy of material or construction and need for careful handling

SVS uses BAX for all the PB2 models, and possibly the PB1+ too. They use UPS for everything else.

The packaging is extremely well designed, and 99.9% of all products arrive unscathed, despite abuse by the shipper.

In the event of product damage, SVS is all over it with one email - they handle everything with a minimum of nuisance to you.

FWIW, I have had GREAT service from BAX, and (honestly) UPS too. I was so worried about the 20-39PC+ I shipped to gacole2000 (greg) I insured it for $850 in case they totally destroyed it.

I must say, my experiences with BAX were excellent also. I've only had to deal with them one time but the one time was great. The only damage I received with my PB2+ was one of the legs on the packing crate was destroyed. The delivery guy even took 10 minutes out of his time to explain how it happened. As far as UPS and Fedx, all my experiences with them have gone fine also. I know this does not help your current situation trubluluc, but I'm positive SVS will take care of it.

UPS has destroyed many of my heavy/fragile shipments.

For smaller packages I use USPS Priority. I've never had a problem with good old Uncle Sam delivering my packages. Hell, they invented it!

Larger pkgs, I use FedEx. But they are only a little better than UPS.

I think fragile statements only inspire the disgruntled employee into trying to damage the contents. Sort of like taking an indirect shot at the company.

This thread actually started over at the home theater forum. I just wanted to give you guys the update.
I will be sending the sub back to SVS, with their blessings.
In the short time I have had the SVS sub, I have been amazed and extremely happy with it's performance.
And believe it or not, the truly fine folks there are willing to let me keep this sub until they can ship me a new one, as they are back ordered 7-12 days.
This, in my opinion, is customer service way beyond the call of duty. This is the kind of grass roots, company you'll want to do business with.

    these guys rock!:)

Yeah, isn't it amazing how a company like SVS can grow by leaps and bounds by not only their products but by how well they treat their customers? Wow, what a concept for other companies to follow!

My experience with freight companies in general has been excellent. The most recent encounter was moving a 9 carton 500 pound full SRT system from Southern California to New Jersey. There were two carriers (SAIA & G.O.D.) involved with a handoff in North Carolina. Not a sign of rough treatment anywhere inside or out. Besides the caring treatment I now also get to say that ... I got speakers from GOD ... They sound like it too.

No wonder UPS harps on "pack your stuff REALLY well". I had a woman give me grief at a packaging place once since my box wasn't rock solid. Never had someone telling me things like this when I was shipping ebay stuff out via Priority Mail!
