both the db components and the ex 6x9s handle 100w rms, 300 max, but both have high sensitivitys at 92 and 93. im looking for a 4 channel amp to push these, and wanted to know what would be a good rms for them. thanks

i know that theyd sound good on 100, but whats the lowest rms that they would sound good on? i was thinkin about gettin an amp thats rated around 60-75 x4 rms.

You wouldn't get the full volume out of them, but I think they'd sound fine on 60-75. Depending on the amp, they're usually underrated a few watts anyway. I'd just go for as much power as you can within your target price.

More power doesnt mean louder music, well to a point anyway. Depending on the speaker, some frequencies require more power to play them accurately. So if you stick 35 rms on a Momo MM6 you wont be getting the full spectrum of sound quality these things have to offer.

It also means that your signal has more headroom and can play cleaner at louder volumes and the spikes in music like snare drums and such can be played much more realisticly.

Now that doesnt mean that if 100 is good then 200 is better. It depends on the speaker again. If you feed a typical 5 1/4 200 rms its probably gonna become a nifty paper weight.

If a manufactuer rates a speaker at 100 rms that doesnt mean that 100 is the most it will handle, what it usually means is this is the most you can put into it and get the best balance of sound quality versus strain on the speaker. It will handle more power but youll only be making excess wear on the speaker without any additional sound quality benefit.

So I agree that 100x4 would be the optimum choice (Orion 4004!) but if you dont have the cash or extra room to mount one of these behemoths then a 75x4 would be fine. However I would not go below 50x4. I have a 40x4 and Im running a pair of Momo 6x9s bi-amped and its way overworked.

i recommend no lower than 75% of its rated power
    100 watts=75 watts minimum
if you want to power less than that, get speakers with a smaller power handling

which do you guys think would be best:

    Profile ca640- 75x4 rms
    US Acoustics USB-4085- 85x4 rms
    Power Acoustik OV2-800- 85x4 rms

i know that these arent the best brands, but im on a budget, and ive heard some good things about profile, just want your opinion on which to get. thanks.

Yes, go with Profile. Theyre cheap and dont have any fancy features but they do put out good, strong, clean transparant power.

Id shy away from the others though. Im afraid they may just be cheap.

ive heard some of the components(terminals, etc) arent that great on the US Acoustics, but they do put out their rated power AND are reliable
plus they coem with a 3 year warranty...
id do with them or the profile
    power acoustik sucks
they are not a reliable brand

Considering I am/was on a huge budget, I just bought a Profile CA640 amp (75rms x 4) for my dB 6500 & 690 speakers. I've had two of the California series amps by Profile since I got into all this stuff and they've treated me right so I've always turned back to them. And yeah, they do sound pretty good. Definately good for their price.
