Weighing it out - LFE Cable, Speaker Wire

Well Doc got me convinced...
I needed to use the LFE cable.....
Now there are a few things I noticed
Speaker Wire -
CONS -
Speaker wire everywhere
Speakers handled to much, sounded dead and harsh, using to much of the amp. And since I had to start using the 535 because of the 545 II failure, it was even more noticeable.
There was only bass from the main channels, and not all over. I understand that in 5.1 the sub receives bass from ALL channels, and not only the mains. That was another reason.
PROS - Sounded fuller, played louder, Bass at ALL volumes, not only when a LFE signal was present.
LFE Cable -
CONS -
Didnt play as loud as the speaker wire
Only bass when a LFE signal is present.
PROS -
BLENDS BETTER (only slightly)
MAKES THE SPEAKERS SOUND MUCH CLEARER (relieves stress off of amps)
Less wires
OVERALL - It totally changed the tonal signature of my system for the better, and I dont have to turn it up as loud to get the same volume. Right now I calibrated it by ear (forgot SPL meter) and it sounds pretty good. I will do some more extended listening tommorow. I checked out the subwoofer, no bottoming over here. My room sure does 'bottom' alot. It moves in and out like a box with a build up in air.
I like the LFE cable alot, but still like the overall volume I get from the speaker wire. I am using a y splitter also with the LFE cable (gold series from ratshack).

Geez, it's been a while since we discussed speaker level vs. low level. For HT applications, the cable is the WTG IMO. So much easier, and there is really no downside. Glad it's working out for you, Sid."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Yeah, my only real complaint is it loses just a tad bit of volume. Nothing major.
I am still getting over the fact that the SVS without strain can take my room from point A to point B in a regular song. I even listened to it without the speakers on. No signs of bottuming or strain.
Now its time to realize I can listen to music at 70db and still feel bass.
