Does anybody like a good FIRE???

We've got a fireplace and a fire pit. Got a good one going in the fireplace right now. It IS ALOT of work; to get the wood ready and ****, but does any one get WOOD???

I've had some of the best lovin' in front of a good blaze... any good stories go here:

Well I do like a Good Fire. But have 1 problem or BIG Problem no fireplace.

Had 1 as a kid with in my parents house. But haven't built a Good Fire in years. And yes it's a lot of work. What are you burning any good hard wood?

Oak is nice, but have you burned any apple wood? Really sweet.

I have a fire-pit in my backyard, I love it, especially for cool desert evenings.

Gas fire pit on my front patio and a cast iron Chimenea on the back patio for wood fires. But, no indoor fireplace. That will come with the remodel in about 5 years or so.

I have an Indoor fireplace in the new home that we have enjoyed all winter.

I have completely trashed two chiminea's over the past few years... The last 1 got so hot the bottom just fell right out of it:( It was real cool while melting beer cans but that did not last to long.

Was it a cast iron Chimenea? I found ours to take guite the huge fire. I would not buy a clay one, unless I wanted to plant fowers in it. Those just cannot take fire very well.

I lost a maple tree last year. Wasn't big enough to mill, so it's on the wood pile. Nice hot fire from it....

It's cool to get a good one going and just sit there watching the flames with the tunes going. A glass of some good vino...

I lit off a big one in the pit Saturday night. Had an Easter egg hunt for the kids in the firelight, then we made smores and munched. Good quality time with the family.

I just really dig it, ya know?

Back in my young Cub Scout days, while playing in the fire (of course) with a piece of galvanized pipe.

Being cool, I decided to stick the pretty warm pipe into our "fire" buckets (in case the fire got out of the pit).

Needless to say, I didn't have the understanding of thermo and chemistry I possess today and preceeded to burn the snot out of my forearm from the steam that shot up the pipe! OUCH!

I also have a Big Green Egg, the world's best smoker. It's based on some ancient Japanese Kamodo grill.

I've been eyeing up smokers lately. Never owned one or used one before but I am ready for new outdoor cooking adventures.

The largest size goes for around $450-500, I think. I know that sounds pricey, but when you consider buying a standard grill ever 5-10 years, it gets very reasonable very fast.

i can't recommend the Big Green Egg highly enough. It can do everything! I rearely eat-out for steaks anymore. Pork tenderloins are to die for. Boston butts rule. Wings are very flavorful. Chicken is so juicy. You can even have a relatively juicy well-done steak. Even a plain ole hotdog or hamburger is better and more flavorful.

"Egg"-cessories for the Egg can add up quick. If you are handy with a tape and skilsaw, you can build a sturdy table without too much trouble and save a bit. You definitely should get the spring-tensioned hinges. No latches to deal with. A daisy-wheel top is also helpful for more precise and consistent temp. control. The ash tool is a must. Either the electric starter or a propane torch for lighting saves you some trouble as well. That should get you off to a good start with the Egg.

Warning: It weighs a freakin' ton! Two people can move the big Egg, but life is much easier with at least a third person.

We have a camp and have a fire every night on the weekend. You can't beat a good campfire or fireplace. Try this, get the largest copper pipe you can find and stuff it with cheap gardenhose, awesome colors, just don't be roasting any marshmellows? over it.

I burn Pinon' for the sheer smell of it. It is plentiful out in New Mexico and Colorado. My 70 year old neighbor came over and asked me what I was burning in my chiminea cause it sure was "turning him on"!

It is a cedar type scrub tree that most farmers and ranchers consider to be a nuisance like those in Texas see Mesquite.

It does really smell great!
