No, not that...

Went to Lone Pine this weekend and struggled to the top of Mount Whitney, highest point in the lower 48 at 14,505ft. Challenging at my age, but absolutely damned beautiful and worth the effort. Thought some might enjoy the scenery. To paraphrase the wandering man himself... "in the end you won't remember time spent in the office or mowing your lawn, climb that goddamn mountain"...

    seriously though, I've heard it can be quite the experience in the solitude of the mountains with its silence, sounds, smells and vantage points. Some say bordering spiritual.

    Thanks guys - glad you enjoyed. If i can wax poetic for a minute...

    I climbed my first mountain in my 27th year... just like the damn John Denver song, that line still makes me misty... I wasn't the best person, or most responsible 27 year old in those days, it really changed my life. Inspired me if you will.

    Now I'm older, and I'm reminded of the Great British climber Doug Scott (Nerd alert, I collect mountaineering books besides audio) who said essentially... "if you climb with younger partners, get used to seeing your climbing partners as little black dots!"

    That was pretty much the case here, my 52+ legs didn't keep up, but they did keep churning, worth every step.

    Anyway - I'm glad you all enjoyed.

    Funny the one guy who kinda stayed around me gave me a bit of a quizzical look once or twice, looking at the skyscraper sized pinnacles I looked at him and said "only God stacks rocks like that" the next, at 13,500 feet well above treeline, these beautiful flowers just poked out of the rock, "only God grows flowers up here"... It's a different generation. Better stop before the thread gets closed LOL!

    Thanks gents - Dabutcher - actually a Samsung S7 Edge, most iPhone users are fairly amazed at the photo performance of the phone (everyone in the group but me), I didn't even carry a "real" camera this trip. No need.
