There is great debate in my family regarding my sons name. Because I'm the 3rd it(I guess) was figured I'd go for the 4th. That is not the case and they are irrated and I decided to meat them half way and go with my dads and paps middle name which is Dominic. Its a cool name and I have no issue with it but I always like the name Tino after an uncle Augustus and a friend growing up named Augustino. In my case though I want Santino and am willing to make his middle name Dominic.

The wife is cool with the name but is concerned that with a very Italian name he may be discriminated against. This is the reason for my querry... is that so? I just can't imagine that and is opposite of the way I am and think. I would never discriminate against anybody for anything and can't understand this mind set.

Last night the wife said Santino is cool but what about the family? My response is they don't have to know... because whether his first name is Dominic or Santino I am calling him Tino :D get it;)

Pro's, Con's, Opinions or whatever... let me know what ya think.

Another night with no Beer. SHITE!

I've never even met a "fourth". Much less a fifth, sixth, or seventh. So sooner or later, someone always breaks the chain. Unless of course you're George Forman.

His name should be what you and your wife want to name him. The family has absolutely no input as far as I'm concerned. I don't think discrimination would be a factor. Well, maybe if you named him Mohamad Alserief or something like that it might be. :D

1/2 twin :) I ran into a similar problem with my 5 month old son. I was a II (2nd) and few people in the family thought i should keep the name alive but i thought diff...after hours and days and weeks etc... of arguing and bickering with family mbrs and the wife i decided on the name "Easton" and it shut them all up. LOL. (FYI when me and the wife found out we were gonna be parents, me and the wife agreed that she would pick the name if it was a girl and i would pick if a boy) turns out we had a boy and i got to pick the name (for the most part). Bottom line its YOUR son not theres and whatever you want to name him is between you and the wife. If you really think about it, you can make fun of damn near most names but u gotta get past that and go with what U want and be DAMN proud of it!! I say carve it in stone!

That is way cool because the wife and I did the same but opposite... since I wanted a little girl and the wife a boy I got to name the boy and the wife named the girl. Well my wife picked Natalia for our daughter and I really like Santino.

    I like "HBombThree"...

With Santino, I'd always be seeing you with cotton balls packed in your lower jaw, saying,"Never let anyone outside the Family know what you're thinking..."

Dominic ain't bad... As for the discrimination thing, he could always have their legs broken...

So you on the wagon until the little one shows up???

Oh yeah, ? dont know your plans on how you guys are going to deliver but go get informed. She had all these ideas on doing it natural and breastfeeding,etc... i had to goto hours of classes with her. You know getting informed of ALL our options and i tell you what I am glad i caved in and decided to go her route. I mean its all good, as long as the baby is born healthy but there is alot you think you know but...you dont. We had our son under water and she did it all natural. Wasnt as bad as i thought AT ALL. The baby came out and went right into her arms with me right there. VERY VERY COOL AND SPECIAL. I pray that everthing goes smooth and you guys come out with a strapping, healthy son! Whatever the case! A BIG CONGRATS! Its a wonderful experience! (FYI if you guys are going to record it on tape, if you arent doing the taping..make sure the peron that is, hits the record button) Thats ok, i have it recorded in my head. :)

Having an original name, Shelby, as a male has been an interesting. I would say I am very glad my parents had the courage to give me an original name. I think its pretty cool being the only Shelby I know. You could do much worse than Santino.

Some of these guys don't understand what family means if you're Italian. Your business is the family's business. Whatever you name your son, you can always use Tino as a nickname.

You got that "us" thing going at the end of Augustus. I like that and suggest the name Scrotus, which I use occasionally myself. If you name him Scrotus, I promise to only use ScroTON or something else for myself.

ahh George... I nearly choked on my bowl of cereal.

He is your son and you can name him Asparagus if you want to.
But ultimately...it will be your sons name, so do him a favor and make it something he will like and be proud to use.
One of the best tests I know of: is to walk over to the door and yell it outloud a few times, chances are you'll be doing that now and then.

That's the breaks Luc. I don't eat Raisin Bran, OR Grape Nuts while reading for that very reason. Let that be a lesson to you.

I still like Augustus. I bought a pair of AR-5's from a wackjob pilot named Gerhard Augustus Leipfinger. I flew with him for over 20 years. Great hands. He still has a pair of AR-LST's that he drives with a Carver M4.0t and original Carver High Fidelity Control Console preamp. He's also got a few Crown power amps laying around. He's also the guy who turned me onto the "Round-Up" cd from Telarc, about 15 years ago now. The next night he blew up his LST woofers checking out his new 375wpc amp (the M4.0t) with the 1812 Overture. He didn't really blow them up, but light foam rot was turned to severe with those excursions.

    Hbomb,

Man you name your son anything you want. Don't worry about the discrimination thing at all. It hasn't been a problem for me during my life.

I'm about as Italian as it gets. Both my parents are from the "old country". I was born here though exactly a year after my parents came to this country. I have Italian relatives in New Jersey, down here in Louisiana, and over in Italy as well.

I can speak Italian too and we still speak it when I visit my parents house. I went to kindergarten and I could barely speak english. Now that was a little tough.

Like I said, never been a problem for me. When I was in grade school, I would sometimes get teased with stuff like "tomato whipped", or "dago", or "wop" but that was ok. I would just beat the snot out of the kid who said that to me and then take their lunch money. So its good to teach your son how to fight early. I'm sure you have all the Rocky movies. Rocky I and Rocky II those were the good ones. Handy reference material;) That left hook comes in real handy.

So, naturally I would get somewhat in trouble for those actions and I would have to go to the principal's office (who was a catholic nun) but my parents had their way with the pastor who was the principal's "boss" per say. My mom, she used to bake cookies and cook for the St. Joseph's altar every year and the priest knew this. I also used to be the flag bearer for the annual procession. So due to me being such a "good" boy the pastor would let me off easy. He knew that I was provoked into the behaviour.

Okay..okay.. I'm just kidding here a little. I am a proud full blooded Italian though and am very thankful to my parents because they are the reason why I'm a successful person today. ... even though the name they gave me at birth was Paolo Giuseppe. That first and middle name is about as italian as it gets.

    ciao

Well all, it was a long day but with the help of the Burdette family and an outstanding effort on my wifes part a very healthy baby boy was born today. Santino weighed in at 7 lbs 15&1/2 ounces and 21.5 inches long or... was that 21 and 1/2 lbs and and 8 inches long:rolleyes: any who, he was bigger than I could have ever expected being from the Shetlin family and all:D

When I told my Dad his name was Santino his answer was GREAT and I should have not nosed in but the Vino was talken. I still can't drink like my Dad but I'm given it HELL OH and BTW my Dad wins all the Political arguements in the family whether you like it or not...:p

Thanks all and now I'm going to go and have a nervouse breakdown;)
