Newbie to rear speakers

Good day
I am interested in expanding my home theatre system by adding rear speakers but am lost on what to purchase.
I am looking for something that is small and mountable on the walls.
1) Can RTI A1 be used as rear speakers?

What are your thoughts.

My system is two RTI A9 speakers with an Anthem receiver
Also, can book shelf speakers be used as rear speakers, and is the preferred speaker to use?

Thanks

The size of the room and location of the LP within that space will have alot to do with the size and type of speakers used. Typically a bookshelf fits the bill, but sometimes a bi-pole, or di-pole would be better suited. Also, since you're upgrading, have you considered setting the room up for Atmos support (11.2)?
  • i was happy going with 5. to start, and maybe move to 5.1.2, but because this is my first real HT set up, I want to start small.
When I upgrade my house, wlll look at 11.2

I use a couple of Polk T15s for both my L&R surrounds as well as my rears. They work great!

Yes, you can definitely use those bookshelves as surrounds. In fact, the speakers that match your fronts (RTiA1 and RTiA3) have a rear plate that allows them to be easily wall mounted.

It's up to you if you want to use something like T15 or get matching speakers.

Though rear speakers don't matter if they match or not, I would consider the RTI A3s or the FXIA6, the A1s will also do a fine job.

Sorry if this is too late. Coincidently I just went through (two days ago) a similar process as you to get rear surround speakers. In fact I replaced my side surrounds too.
I ended up getting the rtia1 for a couple reasons. They voice match with my rtia9 and csia6. While some say the voicing dosent matter for the surrounds I disagree. If you've ever watched gravity the first scene with George Clooney flying around is the perfect example as to why you want voice matched speakers. My previous satellites did sound different and it irritated the he'll out of me. The rtia1 are a perfect match.
Secondly I needed a relatively small foot print and the rtia1 is the smallest. The rtia3 would be too big for the side boundaries of my room.
I'm running a full 7.2.4 config powered by the anthem mrx1120. Yesterday I did the complete ARC calibration and have been testing out the results up to this morning. I'm very pleased and happy I got the rtia1.

Yaaa! Sounds like you got a match you will like.

We have a pair of Rti6 speakers, just sitting collecting dust, in our "Spare speaker room", but really like the clarity and look of them. Love the look of the whole Rti line, older and newer ones.

Yes, you can most definitely use the RTiA1's are surrounds.
I have a pair that i've been using as surrounds for quite a while and like a couple people in this thread, i use an Anthem MRX receiver as well with good results.
The only difference is, i have NOT used them wall mounted but rather on stands.

    Dealers choice.

After running ARC, i found i had to turn the surrounds down in volume. Explosions were a little too hot 3' from my head.

    No center?

Lol spare speaker room! I have started my collection now of spare speakers. Yes the Rtia line in particular look great and premium in my opinion. I should post a picture of my room. I'm pretty proud.
