Pioneer Universal player

I'm at the office and I can't remember the model number and I'm way to lazy to look it up.
Anyhow, I aquired this unit to dable with SACD. Mind you I've only got 2 hybrid SACD discs so I can't make too many observations. I've got a Telarc Epics by Kunzel and the Cinci Pops and Pink Floyd's DSOTM. So, what I did was hook up the unit in my main 2ch rig so I could flip between that and my AMC CD8b.
As far as straight redbook cd's, the AMC is a superior unit to the Pioneer. More convincing soundstage in terms of height width and depth. High freq's witht he Pioneer seemed just a tad bit harsher as the AMC had a warmer overall sound. The Pioneer isn't awful but it's not in the same league as the AMC.
So, how does the SACD capability compare to the AMC? Closer than you might expect. The most notable difference is in depth of the soundstage. The SACD is noticeably more 3-D in terms of soundstaging. That's the biggest thing I noticed. Quite impressive. Detail, imaging and so forth, eh, pretty close to be honest.
Anyhow, just a few quick observations, certainly not enough experience for a really comprehnesive rundown but it does make me want to aquire a SACD player a little farther up the food chain which was the whole point of this exercise.
Far as the Pioneer in and of itself, for 150 bones, hard to go wrong there. I have no clue about the video presentation, the only time I saw it was intialy to look a the setup menus.

DV-536a Perhaps? Haven't seen one, but I've heard that the video performance isn't as good as a lot of the other comparably priced players. Pioneers downfall with regards to video performance is their unwillingness to correct the chroma bug in their players. My DV-47a has it and it's very distracting.

I have the 563A and really love this unit.
I didn't at first, but with some calibration, I think it sounds wonderful...
I don't really have an issue with the video performance, think the picture looks great. But then again my opinion there isn't worth much since I don't even know what the hell a chroma bug is...
It sounds wonderful, and looks great to me. -
