hmm, interesting economics, at face value, eh?
I think I'd rather invest that kind of moolah in a Marantz 8B, truth be told
Heck, there's not even a 300B amp here (at least, I don't think there is)...
-
I just thought that they were WAY too pricey.
-
heck, maybe they're a better investment that a Dodge Demon; only time will tell!
-
I've had numerous opportunities to listen to WE 300Bs in (DIY, admittedly, but serious DIY) SE amplifiers. The do sound good -- but SE 300B amps, to me, lack the soul of a SE 2A3, 45, or 50 amplifier.
Now, NOS 50s will also set one back a pretty penny

So how do you know you have the 4pin tubes in correctly? Do they have a key like 6sn7 type tubes?
A friend back in the day I was maybe 12 used to have one when he was a tadpole said those things got hotter than Hades. I wouldn't know TBH -
No key, but there're two big pins and two little pins
It is possible to mis-insert them, though, in some sockets -- the consequences are typically not very pretty.
Yes, power output tubes (and HV rectifiers, for that matter) typically run very hot -- most are rated, if memory serves, for bulb (envelope) temperatures up to 200 degrees C (392 degrees F). That is hot.

Oh -- and metal power output tubes are the most fun of all.
At least the glass ones are glowin' reddish-orange inside; they at least look hot.
A metal 6L6, for example, looks the same, hot or cold -- but in use, they can be danged hot. Don't ask me how I learned about this
Not my photo, not my tubes -- but still a darned pretty pair of metal 6L6s
-
still have the warped flesh to prove it huh:)
-
Actually, my run in was with a metal 12A6 output tube in a Heathkit A7 amplifier -- but, yeah, it was an owwie situation.
