Fired up the big boys tonight and it occurred to me that my audio journey is at it's end when it comes to gear. Unless and if Polk comes out with a new SDA line, I am done.

I have thought about replacing the 1.2TL's for a while now, but tonight they reminded me of why I keep them. While other speakers sound very good and in some ways better, none can match the majestic power and soundstage of these speakers. They can in one moment sound as delicate as the gossamer wings of a butterfly or as soaring and powerful as eagles on the hunt. They can attack a note with supreme authority or just let it go as the wind carries away a cottonwood seed.

My ears want for nothing. That my friends, is musical.

I have my own definition, I'm quite sure you have your own. Russ (Lightman1) has his own warped, drug filled, Tibetan monk, sheep loving description as well. Nobody is wrong, everybody has their own description of what is "musical" when it comes to a system's reproductive efforts.

    Here is the question;

Please accept my apologies in advance Mods. I know full well that this is a controversial subject and that folks may end up being banned over this topic. (Hint, hint, Russ...hehe)

I will have what Russ is having. minus the Tibetan, Monk, Sheep loving deal jeez Russ Tibetan Monk Sheep Loving? (Really)? :s

I will probably be labeled a heretic for this, but here goes:

Haveing been to many "live" music events, from concerts, symphonies, night clubs, and even twice to a recording studio, about the last thing I want from my system is the replication of "live" sound. In my experience, the cool part of live music is the EXPERIENCE, not the sound quality. In fact, the actual sound quality is often quite lacking - I have never been to a concert that sounds better than a quality 2ch rig, but if you want to replicate that sound, it's easy enough to do with DSP. Same for a night club, or even a symphony...

What I strive for, is the accurate reproduction of the sound straight out of the mixing board, in a studio session - but in reality, it's hard to know what THAT sounds like anyway - so I guess it just comes down to a simple question - does it make you want to listen more...?

Personally, I could never answer this question. I just love to listen to music, and the better it sounds then the more I love it. I guess I just want a noise free, distortion free, experience that makes me feel good, and the better it sounds then the better I feel.

Case in point was last Friday afternoon when I installed two Denali 2000 power conditioners, one for each amp. These made such an improvement that the music gave me energy and I was up until 9 PM Saturday night listening to it.

Define musical. Ask to the nth person and the answer will have to the nth differences.

Muscal, to me is when I just enjoy. Let go of what you expect to hear. Let go of what you hope to hear that you have not. It is a sickness that consumes.

Which brings up another point. Critic versus happy. If you constantly critique it consumes you, if you are happy, that is end game. The critique is rarely completely happy.

Regardless of price. Dog chase tail. I had to give up audio for years to get over it. Only to do it again.

    Cheers.

So, in other words, Bud, musicality to you is the equivalent of an 8-ball over a coupla days off.

Exactly. Sometimes it acts like a legal drug. On another forum, I made a post where I said we were like heroin addicts sitting comatose for hours listening to music, and one guy went ballistic. I guess the truth hit to close to home for him. LOL.

The most musical system is the one playing the music I like. I'll take the sylvania boom box playing the music I like over the 50 k system playing the music I dislike any day.

What he said....a system that you can enjoy playing a variety of music on and it hits you with that "it" factor when just the right recording comes on. A system that will lift your mood when you listen to it. A system that gives you a natural high when your hear a new song and say to yourself "damn".
