I'd like to completely replace the OEM audio system in my 1997 BMW Z3 2.8 Roadster. I have no idea where to start. I'd like to replace the amp, add a sub, replace all the speakers, and the head unit. Can you help with recommendations that require as little modification to the car as possible? Thanks

crotchfield lists 1 set of 5-1/4 in the kicks, so based on that:

sq setup: wont be enormously loud, but will sound damn good:
    300 for cdt braxial 5-1/4
powered by the alpine mrv-f340 for 400
in the rear, a usamps usa-1000 for who knows how much, powering a diamond audio tdx10d4 for a lot.

controlled by an eclipse or alpine hu, along w/ second skin for dampening (talk to cody), some cash for the sub box and wiring, some more for oh-**** money... and we're way way beyond the price limit... pick something else for the sub and it's amp, im tired. and dont bother me for a spl setup, i dont like em. theres my 2 cents.

btw, this is almost entirely drop-in. the amps are (relatively) small, the sub needs only a tiny sealed box, and the braxials are literally an exchange. well, excepting speaker wire and the xovers. and the dampening, but that's hidden.

Great advice - thanks for the links too. Very Helpful!

Question - the dampening material - in the doors, in the trunk, both? Do you just line whatever sheet metal is showing?
