R30 Tweeter type?

Hi folks, new to Polk Audio.

I put together a small system for Home theatre and have a slight problem:

My system consists of R30s in the froont, R15s in the rear. I bought a Hsu Research STF-1 for the Sub (all wonderful) and now for my problem...

I have a Cambridge Soundworks Center Channel Plus. It's there because it's 4" high and fits in the Armoire. My wife didn't want a Center cluttering up the top of the cabinet. It fits inside on top of the TV. When I am watching H/T I can notice a difference in the high frequencies between the Center and the Polk speakers. This model has 4 3.5" woofer/mid drivers and a 2.5" cone tweeter. I would like to replace the cone tweeter with a .75" silk dome to match it up a little better with the Polk.

Can someone out there give me an Idea as to which company makes the tweeters that go into the R series speakers? Also, if you know of a specific model that blends well, that would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Magilla

Your best bet is to call Polk customer service and see if they have them or if not what they recommend as a replacement.

Ask Ken about purchasing a R series tweeter. However, dropping in a new tweeter may not solve your problem. There are other variables in the transition, specifically the crossover in the Cambridge.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

You are right. My thinking was to try the simplist approach first. If I go to a new crossover, I will probably wind up replacing the Mid/Woofers as well.

I emailed Ken about replacing my dome tweeters. He was no help. He told me to contact warranty in SD. I did that prior to contacting ken, they refused to replace the blown tweeters under warranty even though they're less than 2 yrs. old.

That is terrible customer service in my opinion. many other co. will replace sp. under warranty no Q's asked, apparently Polk is not one of them. I have been seaching every where for a set of 1 3/4" dome tweeters for my R30 speakers and can't find any. Now my sp. are currenty useless.

Does anyone know where I can get a set? So I can try and enjoy my speakers again without the added frustration from Polk.
    Thanks,

YOU blew your tweeters and YOU expect them to be replaced under warranty??? Well, it seems that everyone but YOU knows that isn't how any company does business. I mean, get real and man up. YOU blew them, YOU buy new ones.

I suggest if you want something to match, buy some speakers from the R series. Often Frys will have R15's on for fairly cheap, so you could use one or two of those as your center. I know you're kind of stuck with size restrictions but you're going to create quite a few problems for yourself just trying to swap out a tweeter...

As for Clarity, tweeters don't just up and die within 2 years. Either they are messed to begin with and problems emerge very quickly, or more likely they have been abused. What are you powering them with and how loud were you cranking it when they blew?

edit: just noticed this thread is kinda old... beating a dead horse here I guess.

He recently sent me some real cool PM's saying that I'm an A hole....which of course he's correct, but yea, he won't be back. He's got nothing to say anyways.

Literally. As of this post clarity hasn't posted anywhere else.

The twin R15's as center would work but I'm wondering if they have enough "ommh" to be a legit center. As much as I like them as my fronts, I'd look elsewhere for a center. Actually that makes more sense to me than canabalizing the tweeters from the 15's to install in your current one. The chance that something goes wrong... :(

If you were interested in just buying a new center. Polk recommends the CS1 but I know commonly people use the CS3 as a good match for R30's. That's a bit more coin than grabing a fire sale pair of 15's, but there is that road.
