Curious how many of you run your pre through a power conditioner... as well as, what type of power cord do you use... in terms of brand and awg. I recently upgraded from a stock power cord, and plugged directly into the outlet, only to experience the dreaded ground loop hum...

Presently using Audience PowerChord e cables and Audience conditioner. Interesting that you have a hum appear just from changing away from a stock cable. Does it disappear when you substitute the stock cord back into the system?

New cable have a ground pin that wasn't there before or is it a shorter cable that's making a quicker path to ground than the original configuration?
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

are you routing cable in proximity or crossing over a signal cable?

He's not using the power conditioner with the new cord. Chances are the ground loop hum was always there, but once he moved away from it and went directly into the outlet.....hum.

Plug it back into the conditioner.....or try a cheater plug on it for 2 bucks.

I have a coupe of MIT network boxes on ICs which are probably too close to an outlet and a power cord. It's my understanding it's better not to cross ICs and power cords at all....or if you had to, don't run them parallel right next to each other.....I forget.

More than likely, too many grounds in one spot. Try separating to another outlet if you can or lift the ground with a cheater plug. Also, it may benefit some to change out the wall outlet if it's still that old construction grade stuff.

Another cheap way is to run a wire from a screw on the pre to another piece you know has no hum and grounded well. Hum is rarely due to the cable itself, unless it's of very cheap quality.

I run my Cary Pre and Jolida CDP through a APC power conditioner using Pangea AC 14SE Power Cables. Dead quiet.

if you must have them close cross them at 90 degrees
