I recently purchased a used B&K amp off of Audiogon and the guy wrote me this Email.

The tracking number for your amp is

1ZAV97660357495741

It may not be in the system yet, but it should be by Monday.

I hope you enjoy it.

John

I didn't think much of it till I went to ship my own package UPS. While I was there I asked if "the tracking number should work as soon as it is paid for" and it should. Either he didn't mail it yet.Wich would be the reason for "It may not be in the system yet, but it should be by Monday" or I am getting screwed and this is a delay tactic. Or maybe I am a over reacting paranoid synic. I hope it is just a misunderstanding. I just don't under stand reasoning for that statement along with the tracking number. Would anyone else be nervous?

Here is the link. I thought it was a goos deal. I did use paypal so it won't be a total loss. I hope it works out.http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1085981808

In my experience it takes usually UPS a day to get it into the online tracking system. I have had several reputable retailers send me the tracking #s only to have the system tell me it is not available. It may be in UPS's system, but not available online.

I am not ready to flip yet. Just a little nervous because of the good deal imho.

Check out this deal I got. I got this same amp brand new for
630$ last year from the same site.

I wouldn't worry too much PM. Is it in the system yet? I didn't want to search for it since that is kind of a private thing (tracking number). Usually does take a day or two to show up in the system.

Audiogon is a great place and I've had nothing but positive experiences with all my dealings there. Some very honest and friendly people I have come across. I've even had some ship me stuff before my personal checked cleared or even before I mailed it.

Nice B&K amp. I have the ST125.2 for one of my two channel rigs. Nice find!

It does take time and sometimes it wont even show progress until it gets delived believe it or not... and also another thing is, theirs a difference between something being shipped and the paperwork transmitted to Ups for pickup.. they will generate a pickup for UPS and when ever UPS gets there to pick it up.. it gets in the system... I would just call Ups tonight or tomorrow...

No worries here at all. I too have had packages delivered before they got in the system! Often it can be two days...

I ship UPS pretty much exclusively.

If I drop off by 4pm at my local 'Staples', the tracking number usually shows up online from 4 to 12 hours later. If I dropped at 5 pm on a Friday - it won't reflect until sometime late Monday night.

I use a similar statement via email to people that buy from me. "Here is the UPS tracking no, it might not reflect on UPS.com until later tonight". That, and I've been know to fat-finger the numbers on a rare occasion too.

Chin up, I'm sure it will show.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Plus, he wouldn't even have a tracking number unless he had actually dropped the package off.

Actually I think you can get a tracking number by shipping online, before you drop the package off....at least I know you can with FedEx...

But doesn't UPS use an algorhythm for their numbers, I would think so...

When you enter the number, it should do one of three things:

Tell you that it's not a valid UPS number
tell you there's no information or it's not in the system yet...
    give you the info...

I assume you're getting number 2. Try changing one of the characters in your number and see if you get a different response...

It is normal for a delay. I ship from home and work through UPS. I ship probably 1000 packages a month from work....and the numbers get logged fairly quickly since I use UPS Worldship(Free from UPS).

When I ship from home, www.ups.com it takes longer, due to the fact that the billing information is generated at home...but the actual scan doesn't take place until later....when I actually drop it off....AND it is picked up by the driver.

Don't sweat it for now. I personally haven't had anything delivered, prior to it being registered, and tracked online.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It's all good. Just a little paranoia. Isn't a little paranoia good?
I'll post when I get my my new toy set-up.

    Here is how it works.

    1. Find something you can't afford for a price too low to believe.

    2. Make sure the pics are fuzzy enough that you couln't see if it had been hit by a train.

    3. Don't ask silly questions like "Does this work on 110 volts.

    4. If the seller doesn't respond to questions buy it anyway.

    5. Be happy to spend more than it actually costs to ship.

    6. Tell the seller if he needs additional packaging material to just add it to the bill.

    7. Send money order or other form of payment which you have little or no control over once it leaves your hands.

    8. Mail the MO to someone you don't know in some state 500 miles or more away.

    9. ***THIS IS THE IMPORTANT ONE*** Sit back, relax, feel confident and wait to receive your new toy in great condition!!!

I guess I'm saying you get what you get no matter what you do or how much you worry about it. Luckily most of the people in the world just want to honestly sell good stuff so they can buy other stuff, get it out of their site or just don't want it anymore.

Similar to one of my favorite "90% of all people in this world are good. It is that 10% that screw it up for the rest of us.
