I had a good trip to the thrift store this weekend. Lookie what I found for $20 (for the pair). I little bit of scratching on top of one, the other is cosmetically perfect (except the bottom). I need to replace one woofer surround (and will probably go ahead and do both while I'm at it). Yay! Just had to gloat a bit. I am pretty sure these were called the "Large Advent."

Damn, awesome find for $20. They look like they are in great condition. When I go bargain hunting that is exactly what I hope to find.

Great find on a very nice "classic" speaker. I have a set with the utility grade cabinet and those are obviously the "better" box. For $25 more you can have new surrounds (if you do it youself - it is actually pretty easy) and if everything else is in good order you will have a nice set of speakers. Those will go for anywhere between $100 to $200 depending on condition on ebay. I'm sure you will enjoy them.

Yeah, me too. I have a few newer pairs of Advents (Prodigy's, Baby IIs and a pair of Marbl indoor/outdoors) but this is my first pair of the old classics from the 70's. Can't wait to get them fixed up!

    Yessir, nice snag there.

I believe they are the 2nd generation Large Advents (rounded grill corners). One peek under the grills would confirm that very quickly. The tweeter mounting in 1st generation look like it was an afterthought.

Folks seem pretty well split on which of the first two generations they prefer. Both command around $200 in ebayville, if their in NM condition.

Be sure to let us know what you think of them when they're fired up.

Same here, picked em up for $2 and change a week or so ago. Woofs are at the foam shop now. Actually, the Vinyl-wrapped cabs are bringing decent coin these days too, I'm guessing from the rarity factor alone.

Cool speakers, get em foamed and hear the original 'lease breaker' for yourself.
