Broke my Monitor 7bs, what can I fix it with

Not even home yet, and I get the bad news. Granddaughter knocked a 7b on its back and the speaker plugs caved in the back plate.
This doesn't look repairable. What can I replace it with? Only see one 7b crossover on fleabay (without the fuse). Will I need a matched set? Will the 5b or 5b jr set work, or will that be a noticeable downgrade? I saw some 11 crossovers, but they have 2 woofers. I don't think that will work.

Ouch. So yours have fuse, that's what you're saying?
-
Ouch.... Mount them to a plate.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.
-
no fuse
-
Well by an old cup/crossover with no fuse move your xo to it or buy some plates. Some here have made some out aluminum but then you wind up with needing new binding post and so forth. Can get pricey in a hurry. Xschop is your man.
-
Yeah, didn't think of that. I'll have to take it apart when I get home next week. Hopefully only the cup is kaputt.

All kinds of crossovers on eBay. Buy one just for the cup if that is all you need. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact. -
I have a set of M7 crossovers over at my storage I will grab in the morning. If they will work you are welcome to them for the postage. For the SL-2,000 tweeters and pretty sure mine have the polyswitch.Post edited by littlewoodboats on

Very kind gesture, LWB!

If it doesn't work out with Steve I've got two plates you can have. They were from my 7B's, so you'd have to plug the 3 holes from the fuse holder and epoxy your large inductor/crossover to them, which is doable.Political Correctness'.........defined

I would also be worried about magnet shift on the drivers...

Once again...Club Polk guys to the rescue ! Cant beat them !

Here are some images along with the serial numbers of the cabinets they came out of. I remember now why I pulled them as one did have a broken binding post. You will notice the bobbins are out of the crossovers as I had thought of using them in another project. I can put them back without issue. If you see you have a shifted magnet I have a spare driver. I will send it along with the condition you send yours to @lawdogg for repair to be sent to me for a replacement. The spare here has the magnet glued with dynamat on the basket

Misfire on the images

What a difference a few minutes and a scrounge through the parts drawer can do. I knew I had some binding posts laying around so put those in while the boards were loose. What I did not remember was having a pair of Dayton caps in the correct value. The boards both had 12uf caps but one was 250v while the other was 100v. Now they match. I tried to karma those Dayton's a while back with no takers so went ahead and tossed them in.
If memory serves I ordered the Dayton's to bulk up an order just enough to get free shipping on some other parts -
What happened to the granddaughter?
Disinherited?
Maybe give her favorite doll a buzz cut so she gets the point.I disabled signatures. -
littlewoodboats, thanks for the offer. Very kind.

The granddaughter is too lovable to be mad at. She knocked one over before and froze a woofer. I bought 2 and replaced them both. Hopefully it survived this fall.

F1nut, thank you for the offer too.

Do you still have the frozen driver? In many instances they can be realigned.
-
I may. I tossed some out. I've replaced 7 so far in all my Polks...

Had a silver SVT Contour. Brought it to Germany and found out there is no governor on it. It maxed out just a bit past the 160 mph mark, and counting for speedo error, was still probably over 150 mph. Had it for 10 years. Unfortunately, the rust ate the car alive. Started having electrical problems too, kept shutting off while driving. Ended up trading it in, getting $2500 for it.

Finally home. Going to take the cup off and check the damage. The woofer still floats, glad I replaced on both speakers when I did the last one.
