may I ask a naive XLR (balanced interconnect) question?

Are the XLR-terminated, balanced "interconnects" -- where used for hifi applications -- wired like standard XLR cables used in commercial sound applications? I.e., is the standard configuration XLR male to XLR female, wired thus?
Thanks!

I achieved my goal -- to get a hand-me-down (don't laugh) Behringer DSP 8000 up and running (i.e., interfaced to an unbalanced home hifi).
Just for fun.

meh, I'm playing.
I mean, I do have a Radio Shack "Realistic" 8-track deck upstairs, too -- you know.
I can handle it. I can quit any time.

Here I thought 8 tracks died because they were mainly used to sell to country and polka music fans.
Amazing the things I continually learn on this site. -

Radio Shack 8 track decks or polka?
For the latter -- beer helps in the acquisition of the taste. A lot.
Harder stuff required in the former case, methinks.

The wiring diagram may or may not be correct depending on equipment. Pin 1 and the case (the rectangular connection) should both be chassis ground. You would have to know how the two pieces that you are interconnecting handle pin 1.

Heck, the only reason I found this forum 12 years ago is because of a typo looking for a polka forum!

I've often wondered about this myself as I have a few XLR cables from pro sound days and newer XLR's for home audio, I've read that there can be different configurations and you have to verify both your components as well as cables configuration.

The Cricket I just got can "diagnose" cable connections -- of course, so can a DMM
