Got it last week, yes I finally have one haha

I have one fairly (seems like it should simple) question that I cannot answer for myself, as I read through the manual I can't understand why the unit is not recognizing the surround perimeter from my marantz ud7007, it is set to bit stream output and the preamp is set to auto hdmi in and it is only doing two channel output. I can push the surround mode button to get it to do what I want but I would think this beast would automatically select it for me. I am only running a 5.1 setup so maybe that could be the problem or will running the auto setup mic make everything do what I'm thinking it should? I couldn't figure this out on my yamaha 3010 either.... maybe I've been using analog connections for too long and am that far behind lol

I've read all I can find on this topic and still am at a loss, I'd appreciate any input in the matter.

Did you set up the input on the 7005 that the 7007 is plugged into ?

As in HDMI 1, input mode to auto etc. even with unit set to bd "direct" it still says stereo and is playing two channel audio. I think I asked He same question about the Yamaha I had because all it would say is stereo when it was set to auto in, I had to push the surround mode button to get the setting I wanted. Does the unit have to know how many speakers I have? I already manually setup the speaker configuration to 5.1.

Yes it does have to know. There are general system settings, and input specific settings. If you haven't run the auto calibration mode, you should probably do that. You can always go back and re-tweek any settings.

Normally any kind of "direct" setting means 2 channel. Every brand has a bit different set up schtick though. What other output settings are available on the 7007 ? Try some other modes and see if that helps in the 7007.

It only has hdmi and coaxial. I'll run the mic setup tonight and see how that all works out. Thank you

briefly scanning some info, the player should be set to PCM, which you have correct because the 7005 doesn't do DSD so it has to be converted to PCM. Having the input on the 7005 as auto should also be correct. So my next question is, are you sure the SACD your trying to play has a 5.1 layer to it ? Some are 2 channel.

Setting the 7005 input to direct, I'm not clear on if that would dictate 2 channel or not. It should pass whatever it receivers from the player. Using another mode beside direct would add bass management and equalization. Try one of those other modes for that input beside direct and see what happens.

Doesn't matter, both PCM platforms. Take the receiver out of direct mode for that input and use a surround mode and see if that works. Something is amiss with your settings in you player or receiver....or both.

So last night we put on "man of steel" and guess what, this preamp popped up "bd multi ch in" and put out 7.1 audio, I can say I switched my player from pcm to bitstream and back again, I also switched the hdmi output from monitor to dual and back... so strange. It sounded twenty times better although I'm not getting as much music from the fronts probably bc I still haven't ran the mic.

I have one more question if you don't mind, when I turn this unit on I don't get any sound until I open the setup menu... seem like I wouldn't have to actually wait for the sound to come on, the amp is on. Maybe it's something stupid I'm missing haha
