outlet remote switching

Is there any good way to switch an outlet remotely?
I plan on putting all my equipment outside the room and was hoping to be able to turn outlets on or off. I have an HCA3500 parasound that does not allow me to remotely turn on or off.
I emailed Parasound to see about using a remote outlet I found on amazon.
Hello Richard,
I had a question about the HCA-3500. Is there a way to switch it on/off remotely or via a trigger?
The other option I was thinking was something like this outlet from amazon
https://www.amazon.com/X10-XPR-W-Receptacle-Outlets-Controlled/dp/B002ZZ7RHM#Ask
The outlet can switch on/off via a remote or even sence a load being turned on/off it.
http://www.authinx.com/manuals/X10/XPR.pdf
"Note: LOCAL CONTROL; The XPR Module can "Sense" if any load is plugged into it. When the load on/off switch is toggled to the On position, the
Module responds by turning ON the load connected to it. Total load(s) must not exceed 20A"
Do you have any thoughts?

I don't have any experience with this X10 device. I would have concerns about the switch degrading AC purity. If it's solid state instead of a quality relay I would be wary.
There are probably lots of DIY projects on line.

I wouldn't trust an X10 module's ability to deliver the required current. There are a couple of audio related devices that come to mind. The Niles AC3 & XANTECH AC1.

Something like a Niles AC3 outlet would work for you.Polk S10, S8, S4
Polk RT8
Polk Monitor 7s
Working on getting SDAs -
yikes that is expensive.

Good ,proper power components are. These aren't Xmas tree lights you're turning of and on.....lol"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? Do you have another device in the equation that *can* be powered on via a remote?
I'm using an APC ups (model 750) which has 3 outlets controlled by a master outlet.
When the master sees a load (10, 25 or 60 watts. Configurable) it enables power to the 3 controlled outlets.
Has the added virtue of providing surge protection & under/over voltage control.
That may be a feasible option. -
Niles AC3 could work,
OR you could try a Panamax BlueBolt enabled device like this one: http://www.panamax.com/products/all/compact-power/smart-plugs
Panamax MD2.
A SM3-Pro would have cool web options too as well as 12v triggers:
http://www.panamax.com/product/bluebolt-enabled-system-manager-3-outlets-SM3-PRO
I use a Panamax M4315 (15 amp) for my network gear and a M4320 (20 amp) for my audio gear.
I get a cool easy to use web GUI to use and I can control it using Savant or Crestron too.
M4315: http://www.panamax.com/product/bluebolt-controllable-power-conditioner-8-outlets-M4315-PRO
M4320: http://www.panamax.com/product/1-ru-20-amp-8-bluebolt-programmable-outlets-wauto-reset-10ft-iec-cord-M4320-PRO
The M4315 and M4320 need a add-in card called a CV1:
http://www.panamax.com/product/bluebolt-ip-card-f1500-ups-and-mb1500-BLUEBOLT-CV1
The M4000 has this card built in:
http://www.panamax.com/product/1-ru-15-amp-8-outlets-3-bluebolt-programmable-banks-M4000-PRO
all these items run for $1,000+
Also because these strips are just glorified power strips I always plug them into this:
For the 15 amp outlet: http://www.panamax.com/product/max-image-pro-lt-15-amp-MIP-15LT
for the 20 amp outlet:
http://www.panamax.com/product/max-image-pro-lt-20-amp-MIP-20LT
This stuff is all awesome and works.
If the Panamax is too much money look at SNAP-AV.
They have a product called WATTBOX, its pretty much the same thing but a fraction of the price.
Some Panamax screenshots from my system.
Simply add youremail to get alerts about your system.
You can see over-volt, under-volt, return to normal, breaker switch status, network loss.
Keep a record of your power draw usage, amperage, volts, others.
all very cool.
