I presently own a pair of rt 800s and with the purchase of my tv i no longer have room on each side of my entertainment center for them was thinking about replacing them with a pair of rt55is is the sound going to be equal better or less quality.

I am very partial to the RT55i and feel they deliver a better overall sound (at least I did when I auditioned both and bought the RT55is)...but I don't see how that would save you any room. You will need to put them on stands and the footprint will be as large or larger than the floorstanders.

depends on your listening habits, If you are mostly HT then you may miss your 800's, but the 55i is an awesome speaker and if you listen to music mostly (like me) then I think you will be very happy you made the switch. I prefer my 55i's to my $3000 MSRP infinity towers for music.

A lot of people here say the 55 series hit 'faster' and sound more musical. Never heard the 55 but the 800i have a very dark tone and an enjoyable 'sluggish' low end. So it sounds like the 55 is going to be the opposite of your 800.

It's worth a try since you'll own both models anyway.

Owning both the 800i and 55i I can't think of any reason why you would be dissatisfied. I will also echo what organ said. The 55i is a great speaker and is second to none.

You will only find the 55's on eBay for between $200-300. Retail no longer has them.
