Why do I (or we) listen to the same 10 or 20 CD's???

I was talking with hoosier21 the other night and this question came up.

Yeah, we have some of those reat quality recordings that can really show off a system, but they can frankly be a little boring.

But yet, we don't go get new CD's. we go back to out personal "classics."

Just some food for thought...

Wes

    1. We are comfortable with what we know.
    2. We know that it will satisfy us everytime.
    3. A good portion of the stuff being released today isn't as good.
    4. It is twice as expensive as what we paid for ours.
    5. We still buy new stuff, but it's the old stuff that we are comfortable with! :D

This situation is even stressed more with the purchase of new gear. To get out of this slump, I started putting my most listened to CDs in a shoe box. Unfortunately this shoe box just ended up becoming a traveling "greatest hits" box. Then I wrapped it in packaging tape and put it at the top of a closet that I need a step ladder to get to. At first it was frustrating, but wound up being refreshing. Good stuff that I hadn't listened to in years was suddenly getting a new found appreciation.

I now have a new traveling greatest hits box. :(

Wes, I personally do not have that problem. I buy CDs regularly, about 5 or 6 a month, and I listen to each one that I buy several times right off the bat. For example, the new Aerosmith disc, HONKIN' ON BOBO has been on a regular rotation around my house as has the new Eric Clapton ...MR. JOHNSON. Also, I am beginning to listen to jazz (after being a rock & roll fan all my life), so I am buying and listening to a lot of new music (from the 50's and 60's) that I was never aware of before.

I think that it would be very difficult for me to fall into a trap of just listening to a "few favorites" regularly because there is so much good music to listen to. Christina Aguilara's new CD is great, and the new Tori Amos disc is very entertaining. And then there are always new SACDs coming out everyday that I have to listen to several times.

Nope, I can't see how a person could ever fall into a trap like that.

Zappa, Hendrix, Buddy Rich. Vitamins Z, H, and R. Get a little bit of that each day. Nothing wrong with it Wes.
