M3 for Dolby Atmos

I hope to resurrect my old M3 speakers to see how they work for Atmos speakers . The wedge shape seems to lend itself quite well to upward firing of the sound. Any thoughts? I hope to try this sometime this coming week. Dan

I have heard an up firing Atmos set up, but not nearly impressed as a down firing 5.4/7.4 down firing set up.
Would probably more inclined to see the those M3's mounted and wedged in the corner edges of the ceiling.
Play with it, I like the immersive sounds an Atmos HT settings2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

I am sure you are right. I am just replacing an old Denon receiver (HDCP 1.3) with a new model that will actually allow me to hook up my 4K sources without going direct to the monitor and run audio separate. The Denon I am looking at has Atmos so I thought about giving it a try as simply as possible to start then making changes to get better sound if I like it. My fronts are Lsi9's so I thought I could just try putting the M3's on top and pointing to the ceiling to give it a try. Thanks for the reply and thoughts Dan

My guess would be by preference. Give it a try and give us some feedback. I always thought dolby atmos speakers where design to fire sound in a more narrow wave so that when it bounces off the ceiling it will reach the listener with a much cleaner sound.

I have the new receiver and set it up with the M3's as front height speakers, ran Audyssey and it sounds pretty good. I have only watches a few movies but the height effect does make a difference, not night and day, but it is there. Atmos sounds about the same to me but again I have limited listening time with it and my speaker placement and number of speakers are not to Dolby spec. I still may try placing the M3's on top of the Lsi9's and pointing up at an angle just to see how it sounds, but that means running Audyssey set up again. Dan

What level did the Audyssey set the M3s?

Sorry I did not respond sooner, been away for awhile. Audessey set the M3's at +1.5db. I have been listening to this setup for several weeks now and have come to like it. I t will not replace a good Atmos setup but my room will not allow that. Dan
