I am really close to cutting the cord. Still need internet so they can bend me over a barrel for that. But even with Dish TV and Comcast internet we pay just shy of $200 and both went up again. I don't feel I get $200/mo value out of it all.

The thing is more people will jump ship and eventually in 3-5 years Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Sling TV will all be raising their prices and we'll be back in the same boat again.

If it were me Tony, take the Comcast reduced offer and be done with it.

That's what I did Brock. I got a chuckle out of the CS dude at Comcast when I told him I was calling to cancel....my cancellation order. My choices are Comcast or ATT, that's it. To be fair, Comcast CS agents I dealt with the last 2 calls were outstanding. I had to look to make sure I was calling the right place. They obviously are making an effort at least to improve that area. ATT however....is going in the opposite direction.

With so many streaming these days, TV/APPS/MUSIC/phones, the money will follow the trends. Don't be surprised if you pay 150 bucks a month just for internet service a few years from now.

I thought about going over the air, free....but then I still need internet service and that alone was 90 bucks. Plus add HBO GO and Showtime and your close to where you were before. I hate monopolies and I don't know why we allow cable companies to continue theirs.

Netflix....which the wife likes, went from 10 bucks a month to 20, doubled. I imagine other app services will be shooting north in the near future also. Wouldn't it be nice if our pay also increased at the same rates ?

The cable industry has a huge amount of lobbyists that have severe influence on the FCC and other governing agencies, that's why the monopolies are allowed. Makes me sick to think about it. All the ad revenue generated, and we still get bent over a barrel for TV and internet.

Just like the big banks and investment firms, etc, there is no end to their greed.

Which is why the lobbyist need to get the big boot out of governing. Yeah I know, good luck with that right. Greed isn't necessarily a bad thing, excessive greed is however.

I've also noticed a big increase in ads on my cell phone. Update an app or add a new one and you get ads. You get tired of being marketed to in almost every aspect of life.

Yeah I agree that there is no political will to fix the problem either. What is needed is some good competition in the market. I currently have 2 options.

    1. Cox, fast internet with TV that I like
    2. AT&T slower internet and have to put a dish on my house

Now what would happen if I could choose between Cox, TW and Comcast in my home? prices would go down.

When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

ATT still has their Uverse boxes so you don't need to put a dish on the house. That was my concern also. Their internet service doesn't carry the high speed of Comcast but they claim it's not shared by as many people as Comcasts is either so speeds should be roughly the same. Whether I buy that or not is debatable. I've had both services over the past 10 years and Comcast has always been the fastest and most reliable/stable over ATT. Just my view from someone who has used both multiple times.

Neighbor has AT&T, they have a dish too... I let the 30 something girl renting a room from them use my wifi guest network.

I haven't seen anything about Netflix doubling in price, and I think that would have been big news. What's the deal?

Worst part of no cable TV is the lack of the NFL channel and ESPN.

I do almost the exact same as you but with the Baltimore & DC channels.
The loss of ESPN was important enough to me that I went with SlingTv as a over the top ddition.

Able to keep the ComCruft bill down to ~$60.

I'd do the same right now, if only there was another way to get MASN.......

I agree. Aside from the lobbyists and money involved in the situation it's very expensive to lay the cable necessary. Even Google halted their fiber project and they have loads of money.

The best hope we have is someone figuring out how to get wireless internet everywhere.

Yes it is, and even more expensive to fix when someone breaks a fiber cable. The problem with wireless is always going to be bandwidth. The industry is in-between a rock and a hard place going forward. Our technology hasn't caught up to the demand yet. Which means....those who demand will pay more.
