New addition (Iguana) to the family

Her name is Lucy, for now, not sure the sex yet but the girl we adopted her from says she is a she, so we're going with Lucy. We adopted her about a month ago and she is just over a year old and about 24". Give it a few more years and she should be about 6' long.

She's in a habitat I built over the past couple weeks but in a few years, I will build her a really big one outside as she will need the space.

Any other Iguana owners here? Gotta say, they are amazing!

Years ago when I was in GITMO,those big ones were part of the landscape...I always wanted a Komodo Dragon for a watchdog!....

BBQ iguana on a stick is tasty... I watched my cousins give a big cat a BAAAAD day. The cat thought he was going to jump on and attack his iguana. Well they use those long tails very well that cat soared about 12' after the big wack.

Iguanas are interesting critters. The look they give sort of says, 'Yeah, so you think I'm just a lizard, huh ? Keep thinking that, buddy. Just keep thinking that."

"Lucy" is a good name. Perhaps "Ava Gardener" might be considered ?

Thanks guys, she's young and feisty right now, hopefully I'll get her trained, I take her out almost daily. Put her in the bath tub so she can swim. But yeah, that tail, at this young age and hurt. It and those claws, looks like I cut myself sometimes.

Can you train them to eat small children ? There's a few in my neighborhood I wouldn't mind not seeing again. Maybe I need a Monitor lizard for that one.

They sell Monitors at the All-Animal show in Wheaton (county fairgrounds) every month, Tony--Drive on down. You'll need to let 'em grow a little, but they'll get the job done, eventually.

I was thinking more like a Komodo Dragon Jay, if they sell those at the county fairgrounds....I might not show up myself. lol

My sister had one of these growing up, it grew to be just about 6 feet. We had a cage big enough to walk in to. We had to get rid of him due to obvious reasons of him being too huge. The iguana and our jack russel got into a scrap once, it was interesting that's for sure.

Way cool a new family member that Lucy is a beauty for sure. This thread inspired me and the wife to get us a couple of new members to the family. They are not Iguanas but they were 50% off at Petco today so we got us two Bearded Dragons, little babies.

I think they are a little camera shy in there new surroundings but hopefully they come out of thier shed rock and show their selves so I can snap a picture. Enjoy Lucy, the wife's gonna come up with names but we are not sure of their gender male or female she will come up with something.

Very cool. I just read up on Iguanas, never really knew they were meant to be a pet. They seem very involved to have as a pet, good luck! My dog is more than enough work (and cost) for me!
