Hi
How are NAD receivers, are they good. Iam helping my friend to set up his HT. Please suggest some good receivers around $1000.00. He is going to use it mostly for HT.

Nad T761, msrp 999, find it online for 7 Franklins.
dd/dts built it, 80x5 with 4.4+ db headroom, Sigma Delta ADC and DAC's, 45 amps peak current, pre's in and out for all channels, svid's and composites in and out for video....
If you go Nad, thats what I would pick.....
They aren't the last word in Rec's, but based on sound quality alone, I haven't heard better for the price.

Thanks Russ,
how is it compared to Denon 3802?
How about DPL II in NAD? -
I personally have ZERO experience with the 3802, but I know other forum members have, and should chime in shortly....
The 761 has no plII, no 6.1 7.1 es, straight up 5.1
If you like bells and whistles, or the latest/greatest gimmic, you need to look eslewhere, seriously. If you need kick **** 5.1 dd/dts amplification, look no further. Nad is known for its simplicity in design, headroom, and clean, flat output. It is built LIKE an amp, not a typical rec.
I can rant and rave all day about the sound, but you really need to get a side by side demo with comparable models to hear the difference. I aint' knocking the Denon's sound, and I would demo both if it was me, but if given a blind choice between an Denon with the latest and greatest, or a Nad with nothing but dd/dts.... I'd be looking at that little red logo every night.
I think with the good things I have heard about Denon, you can't make a bad choice here, either way, your bud wins.

The Denon3801 is really weak in driving 2-channel stereo.
Also, I find the multiple speed cooling fan a bit annoying.
Its not bad though.
For my front main's, Polk SRS3.1TL's SDA's, I bought a seperate amp and preamp (with HT Passthru); and, that pretty well solved my 2-channel problem. Nothing like 250W of Krell to clean things up <grin>. -
You might also want to check out the Arcam AVR200. It has Pro Logic II and some other features. It's $1199 at the shop here, but I heard it... it's awesome!
I just picked up a Arcam A65 two channel amp last night... it is very very sweet. Very natural and detailed, makes the soundstage huge!

Thx for the info, i will look for it and will post here what iam going to select
Any more suggestions are also welcome -
You've mentioned the fan in the 3801 a couple of times in the past. I've never had the top off of mine, but I'm not even aware that there's a fan in there. I see something that could be a fan mounted at kind of an angle on the heat sink.... What makes it run? High heat?...Output level? I've never heard it.
Compared to other receivers I've listened to in its price range, the 3801's amps seem pretty stout. Hooking up a good seperate amp does change one's perspective, however...

I agree with jcaut with Denon. I have never seen or heard the fan in my 3801 either. Its gotten quit hot when run for a good part of the day too. I would buy Denon again for a receiver, I only use it for a pre-processor with Adcoms. I also have the Denon DVD-2800.Chris
