The PFB curse is alive and well...

So I go into Best Buy today looking to pick up a new tv for my wife to enjoy during her last month of her pregnancy. I decided on a new, but being sold as open box 55" Sony 850d to hang over the fireplace. The tv checks out perfectly and I pay the princely sum of 699.00 plus tax. We go to load it into the car when I hear an ever so slight snapping noise similar to a small cell of bubble wrap being popped.

I quickly inspected the panel and sure enough.... cracked!

They took it back without a thought, but all I could think was how lucky I was that my hands were nowhere near that screen when it broke. Likely it would have gone the first time I hit a bump, or when I lifted it from the box at home.

Yikes, how did it happen, just pushing it in too roughly?

No idea.. there is almost no bezel on it and it was windy. The panel may have flexed just a bit.

New but sold as Open Box - how does that work? They didn't just mark it down for clearance sake, but changed the condition?

You had a tv break, no flames or explosions, and was able to get full credit. Came away with a better tv.

No way is this a PFB curse.

Somehow I see a tv exploding, just as PFB sets the tv inside the car, burning up the upholstery. Then some idiot gets so distracted by the flames inside the car, that he hits the accelator, instead of the brake, t-boning PFB's car.

Somehow he sues PFB, and wins getting a 40k judgement to replace his vintage Volkswagen Beatle. To top it off, PFB then bets banned, not only from the BB, but the whole strip mall where it was located.

PFB would probably call your experience one of the greates days of his life

This story was a Rip! I was expecting carnage...flames, explosions, mafia union truck drivers threatening dismemberment, you know, a PFB STORY!

Glad it worked out well in the end. Got my eyes on the new Sony TV's at BB a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed. Got me thinking.

I dunno John, I would think a PFB curse would involve a UPS guy, a drone, or a Porsche hitting you in the parking lot.

Bad luck in general is certainly a characteristic though. Nice TV you got anyway, congrats man.

I thought maybe that snapping noise was a seam breaking on your skinny jeans.

    @nooshinjohn,

You are a lucky man. I would not deign to predict what PFB's story would have been in a circumstance like this, but I know what would have happened to me:

The screen would have cracked on the road home. I would have taken it back to BB. The associates at BB -- with tape recorders between their ears going full blast -- would have repeatedly told me that their return policy does not cover careless transport by a customer -- or some such bureaucratic BS.

My wife would have gotten involved. The BB associates would then have either capitulated or suffered a horrible, humiliating, public fate.

Well, I won't try to narrate the rest.

Don't forget that the blame would be clearly placed at BB's feet.

i recently lost out on a 60 inch plasma Panasonic for 300 because of my transportation paranoia derived from not having the proper packing material.I'd consider it extremely fortunate that it happened for you where and when it did!

I bought exact same tv from dell last fall. Perfect box, screen was shattered. I didn't have time to deal with it right when it arrived, so it was 30 days exactly on the day I opened it. I was really sweating it when looking for the return policy. They took it back all without incident. Didnt rebuy, went a different direction.
