New loft setup

So as everyone knows I gave up my loft a year ago for the kids...

Well I kinda took it back a little bit lol....

My wife bought my kids a play camper that was HUGE (80" long x 40" wide x 47" tall). Figuring out where to put it was a PAIN.

Then to make it worse, I scored a Salamander rack for a price I simply couldn't pass it up. It didnt fit in my car but I made it work and it arrived at home safe.

So today due to some kid issues I had to stay home from work, so I rearranged the setup.

I flipped the room around to what it should have been from the get-go.

Here is what I was working with originally.

Lest someone give me crap, the Ushers actually ended up on Sanus Ultimate Foundation 20" stands.

Now onto what I have setup now.

First to get things out of the way, I will confess my audiophile sins now.

1. I gave up on "proper" cable management. Source, Power and all other cables were run together just because I stopped caring, and it was cleaner.
2. I share this space with my kids, and I do mean share. So I have it setup as "optimally" as I can while still allowing them the freedom and room to play.
3. I let my wife within reason dictate the furniture setup, hence why the couch is cornered rather than along the halfwall.
4. I took these pics with a iPhone so they dont show just how nice the gear looks

And then to end with a couple caveat/comments:

This is still a bit of a work in progress, so I have not finalized the location of the speakers and the may move left/right or be toed in. I plan to force @lightman1 to help me dial things in at some point soon.

Additionally, the bookcase and everything to the right of the couch is getting chucked/sold/donated soon to free up the space. The old entertainment center is also going away, but it shows up in the pictures because I just haven't moved it out of the room yet.

The entire middle section of the entertainment center is for the kids toys as I dont need more than the two sections with doors for my gear.

I plan to wallmount the TV soon, but for now it remains where it is.

The pics dont show how open the room actually is, but is quite nice for playing and the entire camper is empty waiting to be filled up with a play kitchen and other stuf.

And now some audiophile cringeworthy pictures of my cable management.

I won't lie, while large it's pretty cool and the kids love playing in it.

It's not cheap, but it's a canvas fabric not cheap stuff so it has held up well to kids thus far.

Yes, there is a drop down to the first floor, or the stairs depending on where you go over. However the kids are not allowed to be in there without an adult or older kid we trust to pay attention, and we have it gated off to make sure. Once my oldest figures out how to work gates we "may" have to rethink how we are securing it, but for now it works. And hopefully once she gets to the age to get that figured out we will have "learned" her not to ever even attempt it.

And the supervision aspect likely wont change. My oldest is smart enough to know not to stand on the chairs (she gets in trouble each time) and in general is content to rock on that chair till the cows come in.

Additionally we moved the couch and chair a bit more into the room to allow for them to rock and recline better. Which helps alleviate this situation a bit more.

And then we have a wireless webcam in that room so we can look in whats going on up there from time to time to make sure nothing is happening.

But yes, we had concerns which is why initially we didn't set it up this way. But after living with the old setup and realizing kids wont be up there without supervision felt it was ok to adjust.

Thats kinda where we tend to lean. Our youngest recently ate a couple bites of dry dog food before we caught her. As long as it wont kill em, get em put in jail, or break it....

Eat dirt, jump on stuff, run around, etc....

Nightfall and yoirself. I'm a frugal deal finding machine...Because I'm poor! No money after taking care of the wife and two kids. LOL! oh man when my daughter was a toddler back in '04 she picked up a nickel off the floor, put it in her mouth and was choking on it. It happened so quick! We were in the upstairs hallway. We played a little then I got on the computer in the desk area in the same hallway just about four feet away. She continued to play with her toys. Next she crawled around the corner into the kid's bedroom. The room was clean with new stuff, organized, new carpet, no junk, limited toys, no small items on the floor, Just a kid friendly room!

It had to be about a minute or less tops that I went in after her wondering what she was doing. I found her hand at her mouth. When I picked her up her eyes where starting to roll back and she was falling over, she was about to pass out. I put her on my arm, face down, with my finger in her mouth and made her gag. Out pops a nickle!

I have no idea how in the world a nickel got on the floor! We vacuumed that room every few days or everyday sometimes. How did she find it so quick? Man did that scare the crap out of me...but I did not panic and in an instant went to work.

No matter how hard one tries, kids will find a way. Give them freedom, but keep an eye out!
