Cordless phone issues :(

So, yesterday, all my Vtech phones here at home have gone haywire. With calls in or out, I can hear them but they cant hear me...manual didn't help me and their online support didn't list that as an issue so I have an email out to them...need to have this fixed ASAP though so any thoughts folks??

well, I can only tell you what I'd do.

    0) google the phone model & the problem and see what turns u

    1) swap in a wired phone & make sure the problem really IS the cordless phone(s).

    2) is there a base unit? If so -- reboot it :) unplug it from the AC mains for a while and plug it back in. If there's a "reset", you might want to try it.

    3) same with the handsets; pop the batteries out for a while & reinstall.

    4) if all of the above lead to no luck; run down to Best Buy & buy a new cordless phone system. I like Panasonic, FWIW.

    oh, I'll add:

-1) You don't have it muted, do you?

EDIT: I looked at a VTech manual on line; this is their description of the "Nuclear Option":

WOW people still use those dinosaurs  only thing i got is to unplug overnight to see if it helps, other than that may be time for new. When we had phones like that they always just seemed to give up the ghost out of the blue and the batteries in the hand set would die and you had to make quick conversation or else.

Heck, you already know the answer, and it's nothing to do with the VTech.
It's a line problem of some sort.

If you live in a house, there should be a junction box somewhere (in the basement or, more typically, outside). That box, when you open it up, has a terminal block for the four wire TELCO hook up, and it should also have a regular RJ-11 phone jack -- you can plug your corded phone in to it and test the function of the line coming in to the house (i.e., isolating it from the line inside), if memory serves. If it still doesn't work, it's the Phone Co's problem. In that case, of course, may the good Lord have mercy on your soul ;)

I'm sure they'll be happy to come out & fix you up in a few weeks to a few months. :#

the box is outside so will check that out but can you explain why i can him them but not vice versa...i would think if its a line problem it would affect both ends..??

Nope they're correct the switch coming could be fine the outgoing switch could have problems. Have you checked the neighbors to see if they share the same problem?

As @mhardy6647 suggests above, connect a corded phone to your line at the junction box outside your house.

If that solves your problem, then God help you. When we moved into our house in 1997, I had a problem with annoying crosstalk across two lines.

To solve the problem, I finally had to abandon the wiring the builder had installed, and I pulled new CAT6 wiring throughout the house for telephone and Internet service. This solved the crosstalk problem, but not without a lot of time and effort -- not to mention aggravation.

In my case I think having to let the telco solve the problem on the outside, if it had been there, would have been much easier.

If you have this type of demarc, unplug the little RJ-11 cord on the block in the picture and plug your corded phone in that jack

If the problem is still there, its the phone companies issue
