Problem with preamp input source switch

On my Dynaco PAS4 preamp the right channel is cutting out completely unless I apply some sideways pressure to the actual input selector knob. Both channels will work for awhile but at some point I will loose r. channel again. I called the shop where a person did some nice work on this for me last year but alas he is no longer there. At that time all switches were cleaned. The tech that I spoke with did not leave me with a lot of optimism. He said he could this or that but initially said he would try some WD40 on the switch. He stated WD40 has a better conductive property than the usual contact cleaners?
I know next to nothing about such things. Should I look elsewhere?
Yep, my name really is Bob.

  • I don't believe WD40 is a recommended electrical cleaner, better to try Deoxit D5 yourself. The selector should be a fairly simple mechanical contact switch, take off the top cover (with the power cord unplugged, of course) and you should be able to see the selector and the wires coming in to it. If this was a kit build there might be some cold solder joints that a 25 Watt pencil type soldering iron could re-heat.
