I recently bought a LSiM Speaker bundle with 705s, 706c, 703s and 702fs. I currently have Yamaha RX-V673 for HT.
Do I need separates or combination of Receiver w/ Pre-outs and 5 Channel or 7 Channel Amplifier?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nice bundle you have there. I would look at Pioneer SC series. Good deals can be found in the used market. An amp always helps but the Pioneer should drive them fine. Pioneer has pre-out too. For amp. Parasound works well with Polk.

Thanks Chumlie.
I have purchased Emotiva XPA-5. I am not sure if it would be a overkill for my HT setup or not.
As far as Receiver/Pre-amp is concerned, I am looking at buying either a Denon X4300H or Marantz AV7703 or XMC-1 (Used). I want to setup ATMOS speakers.
Please suggest if you have better recommendations. -
A 7 channel amplifier would have been more advisable but from this point we need to know your budget and such. I would say the AV7703 would be a great match to tame the bright presentation of the Emotiva XPA-5 amps but that would require you to buy another amplifier to run the rear surrounds and the Atmos speakers if you want to go that route.
Otherwise the x4300h is a niece piece of equipment and would work well if you want to run a 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 atmos setup, so the speakers you have plus two atmos speakers. In that case you can run the rear surrounds and atmos speakers with the built in amp if the Denon. I have a 4200 and I am extremely happy with it running Atmos in my theater2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

I keep hearing that Emotiva is bright. Since I haven't had experience with it, I am not sure what that means. AV7703 is something I am interested in recently. I have a Yamaha RX-V673, can it be used in conjunction with XPA-5 and AV7703?

Think about getting in a car with the treble way up and the bass way down. It is sharp to the ears.
Something like the Marantz MM8077 would have been a good pickup, especially if you decide to go with the 7703. Regardless, you can get a small 2 channel amp for the remaining channels and get similar results.
Thank you Skip:) I really want to try Emotiva and will return it within 30 days if I feel that it is too bright. Outlaw is another amplifier recommended by lot. -
The good thing is, you have warmer speakers. They should tame the Emo quite a bit.
I have used several Emotiva amps with my older LSis and think it is a very solid pairing.
But there are good deals to be had with other brands as well.
Just keep your eyes and your ears open.
(As an aside, I am using a Marantz 7702 with my Emotiva XPR-5 and I really enjoy the combo even on my newest speakers, JTR Triple 8s)"Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Glad to hear that. Any specific recommendation for other brands? TIA.

Your questions are a little vague.
1) How large is your room? What's the layout? Is it dedicated or reg. living space? Can speaker be placed on the side, back, and ceiling? or are you going with up firing speakers?
2) How loud do you plan to listen?
3) What ATMOS config are you shooting for? 5.1.2, 7.1.2, 7.1.4, 9.1.4....?
4) What's your main goals? Just movies? Movies, games, and music?
5) What's your budget?
Some get by with just an AVR, others AVR w/preouts+amp, other preamp + amp. You have to decide how you want to power your speakers. With ATMOS, you are going to need more channels. 7 channels for 5.1.2 or 9 channels for 7.1.2 How much are you willing to pay for power? Not sure what you payed for the XPA-5. Is it a GEN 3? So, $1499? Their products some love others not so much. One can get a used BRUTE of an amp for cheaper or more channels for about the same money.

There are tons of good options and choices....you just have to decide which way to go and suite the setup to the room.

I have a 2ch set up using 703s powered with an EMO XPA-2. The sound is pretty awesome.
Oddly enough, my wife preferred the sound of my A9's in 2ch paired with the XPA-2 but that's neither here nor there. The 703's offer a different "flavor" to the music that I really enjoy.
Since you don't yet have anything to compare to what you have now, and you're satisfied with the results you'll soon yield, I'd just keep on keeping on until the opportunity comes along for you to do a comparison
Congrats btw on your new set up!!

Ummm, that's a sore subject with me Ken. I never told you, but my ex, many years ago, before we married (boy, was I stupid), when I left the N.W. to ride my bike home to TX, my then roommate was going to ship my albums to me.
Well, instead of shipping all of my albums to me, my GF talked my roomy into playing FRISBEE with all of my AC/DC albums, apparently right into a dumpster, and I had them all, including imports. Her reasoning was, "You shouldn't be listening to that music".........boy, if that wasn't a sign NOT to marry her I don't know what was.........lol, ah, the old old old days

^^^ Hell's Bells!
Back on track... the Emo amp will sound good (not great) but
what you will be missing is some low end detail. You will want
that detail with the 703 pairing IMHO. If you are/get hooked
on this hobby, I think you will moving the EMO before the
warranty expires...
oh and PLUS, if you eventually go external DAC you might
really be bugged by the Exaggerated high end of the amp. -

My 5 channel system had RTi10s powered by a B&K 3320 Reference amp. I just recently sold all that gear and have replaced it with a 2 channel set up using an Emotiva XPA Gen 3 two channel amp powering LSiM 703s. From what I had read, I was concerned that brightness might be an issue. But I can honestly say that I don't notice that at all. So far, I am very pleased with the sound of the system. I agree with your word "awesome"!

I haven't heard the XPA Gen 3. Glad you like it.
Every amp design has it's challenges. Seems to
me the keys to a H class amp is the power supply
and beating the noise and distortion added by the
additional circuits.
"< 0.005%; at 100 watts RMS; 1 kHz; 8 Ohms"
"> 91 dB; ref 1 watt; unbalanced input (A-weighted). "
this jumped out at me from their specs. (good and bad)
I found my B&K 4420 amp to have less noise and more
low end detail than a lesser emo amp. More pleasant
highs as well.Post edited by [Deleted User] on
