audio system for a beginner
hi,
i am planning for my first purchase of a music system, a 2.1, only for music. i am keen on floor standing speakers. as i understand, i need to buy an amplifier too. recently i checked polk 200w speakers in a store and was impressed. need help to understand what specifications should i keep in mind while buying speakers and an amplifier. i am unaware of these technical terms like radiators, etc. also do i need to buy an additional sub-woofer, or are there speaker models with in-built speakers?
please advise.

Tanveer,
In order for folks to give you good advice, can you let us know a few things: what are your listening habits? Type of music, volume level, etc... what kind of room will you be setting up in? Do you have any equipment already, that you will be utilizing? And last, what is your budget?
“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”
― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn -
The most important thing you should do is listen to different speakers. Just because many people like one particular speaker, doesn't mean you will like it. You may find something you like that you never thought about listening too.
I would look at my budget, and plan on spending about 1/3 to 1/2 of it on the floor standing speakers.
